Cell Phone Impact the way we do things

The cell phone has made the most impact on the world of technology in the past 50 years. This little piece of technology has transformed the nature of everyone's life by eliminating the landline telephone that prevented us from doing so many other things because we needed to be accessible to so many others.

According to BBG Communication, the continued advancement in technology should translate into cellphones being able to do almost anything you can imagine. Having a cell means quoting prices from the beach, buying groceries while waiting for little Tommy to call from the orthodontist, changing reservations on the way to the airport, seeing a photo of your new niece while sitting in a meeting, playing games while waiting on line for your frappuccino, checking your stock portfolio on the Internet while having a drink on the Beach at the local hangout, calling your husband to meet you at your favorite restaurant (My personal fave is this Italian Restaurant in Vancouver called Cafe il Nido) when you're too tired to go home and cook, calling mom to share a random moment of affection, calling the ambulance when a car accident happens in front of you. Having a cell phone means having it all AND having it right now! I can even apply for scholarships at studentscholarships.org through my phone. Soon you may even be able to get a degree from a college on your phone. What is this world coming to.

Having a cell phone also means you're never out of reach…even when you want to be out of reach. Work is never more than a keypad away. You can always be asked to stop for an extra quart of milk on the way home from a hard day at work. You have to listen to that obnoxious guy in the row behind you on the train telling his life story to some other poor sap.

Why do people always have to yell when they're on the cell phone? Somebody's phone always rings at the pivotal point in the movie. You can't have a complete conversation with someone because phone calls constantly interrupt. You can't call anyone when you realize your battery is dead because you forgot to plug it in the night before. Stop the world! I want to get off!

Where will the cell phone take us next? Will it be built into our watches? Will it be built into our brains? Will we be able to communicate globally just by thinking about whom we want to call and what we want to say? No doubt the cell phone will continue to shrink the world, enhance our enjoyment of life, and cause us woes – just as all monumental inventions have over the millennia. Give me a call in 50 years and we'll have this conversation all over again!
