Lets face it vanity is a big part of the human condition, did I say big part? What I really mean is for most people vanity is a huge part of their everyday existence. Everyday before you leave your house, you spend what a half hour, an hour maybe more just getting ready to go out. Makeup, clothing, jewellery, and of course your hair. We have all seen the covers of those romance novels, you know the ones I'm talking about. The guy standing on the edge of a cliff or the deck of a ship, his shirt open and those long lustrous locks of hair blowing in the wind. Or perhaps it's the lady with the wind swept hair on the balcony. But when you look in the mirror like approximately 80 million other people, you seen thinning patches or balding. Today your going to learn about 5 of the biggest hair loss myths going around, and we are going to talk a little about the true common causes of hair loss in women and men.

The Big 5 Hair Loss Myths-

Lets start off with one of the most common myths, I'm sure almost everybody has heard this one at one time or another growing up.

Myth #1 - My Father Has A Full Head Of Hair So I Will Too

As it turns out this myth is false, hair loss or growth is a genetic trait passed along to you by both sides of your family tree. If your family is filled with balding scalps, then perhaps in time yours will be as well, but that's not a certainty.

Myth #2 - Wearing A Tight Hat Will Make You Bald

Again as it turns out this is simply an old wives' tale, there is no evidence that wearing a hat or baseball cap will cause you to either lose hair or losep it faster. I remember this one from my youth; to this day a relative of mine is convinced this was the start of his hair loss.

Myth #3 - Wearing Tight Braids, Pony Tails or Buns Will Cause Baldness

Sorry ladies, and the gents who have a taste for this type of fashion but this one is true. This type of hair style will causes stress and tension on your hair over an extended period of time, the result of wearing tight buns, cornrows, dreadlocks and ponytails can result in permanent damage to your hair and loss or thinning. This is one of the causes of hair loss in women.

Myth #4 - Sunburnt Scalps Can Lead To Baldness

This one is true folks, just another reason to wear a strong sun block if you're going to be out in the sun for extended periods of time. The exposure to the sun's rays causing a sever burn or even multiple burns over time can damage the delicate hair follicles at the root level. People with a genetic history towards hair loss may accelerate that loss, with repeated sunburns. To help avoid this, apply sunscreen directly to your scalp mixed into your hair.

Myth #5 - Sexual Activity To Stimulate Growth

Ok well I really wish this one were true I'm sad to report that there is no scientific proof either way that sexual activity will affect your level of hair coverage. But hey I'm not telling you to stop experimenting.

Causes Of Hair Loss In Women and Men-

That root cause is DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), DHT tends to prevent proteins, vitamins and minerals from providing the proper nourishment needed by hair follicles, the follicles deprived of nourishment then tend to grow at a slower rate, this in turn shortens the growing phase of the follicle.

DHT is also responsible for shrinking of the hair follicles; the hair follicle gets shorter and finer and ultimately falls out. Additionally DHT also produces a waxy substance that accumulates around the hair roots; it is this accumulation of waxy substance that gives rise to female and male pattern baldness, the cause of 95% of all hair loss.
