Holme Valley Camping And Caravan Park

Holme Valley Camping and Caravan Park is located in the heart of the “Summer Wine” rural area, adjoining the Peak District. It is surrounded by woodland and meadows, yet is just 5 minutes from the village of Holmfirth, with pub food, buses and trains etc. All caravan pitches have a 16 amp hook up. There is a small children’s play area and a well stocked food shop with off-licence. Coarse fishing is in the Old Mill Dam and there is trout in the River Holme. This park is 4 Star Rated and has received the David Bellamy Gold Award.

Phillip Peaker is the camp-site owner and he can be contacted on 01484 665819. To further increase the sites Environmental Standards, Mr Peaker has newly purchased a W40 Cardboard Baler Machine, for recycling various materials. He is looking to recycle all his cardboard, plastic, tin cans, bottles and also to compact general waste, so less waste volume ends up going to landfill and more materials are recycled.

The best and most proficient way to recycle cardboard, plastic and other waste materials is by using a cardboard waste baler. If you regularly have a large volume of cardboard waste, it is possibly already sorted or segregated. You possibly already put it into a cardboard container marked for “cardboard only”. This is a start, but there is a lot more you can do to cut your “carbon footprint” and save yourself money in the long-term.

If you have a brand new baler, it is likely to have the most modern design and will last you for many years. The cost of having your baler should generally be less than you are paying for your bins. In other words, you should pay less weekly for having a baler, than you pay for renting your bins and having them emptied. Now you can use your baler as a cardboard bin. Because of the compaction ratio, you can really store a lot more cardboard in your baler. You just open the baler door, insert the cardboard, close the door, press the start button and walk away. The best balers are fully automated and will complete the whole baling cycle for you.

When you have made a bale, which will take a lot longer than you probably imagine, the bales can be left outside in all weather. If the bale is tightly compacted then the weather won’t normally be a problem. This is also a lot safer than loose cardboard in your bins. Tight bales of cardboard have no oxygen inside and are considered less of a fire hazard.

A Good Supplier of Baler Machinery will normally familiarize you to a local collector in your area. The bales will then be collected (usually free of charge). TIP: Always ask your baler supplier if they can genuinely arrange bale collections for you.

Because you are having your cardboard greatly compacted, this means you will have it collected much less often. As an example, where you previously had two 1100 litre wheelie bins of cardboard collected weekly, you may just have 3 to 4 small bales collected every month, free of charge. This means you are helping reduce the amount of gas-guzzling refuse collection vehicles on the road. This also helps to reduce your carbon footprint even further.

When the baler was delivered and installed at the Holme Valley Camping and Caravan Park, the cardboard had been recently collected. So something else had to be baled for the training. All the camp-site clients would put their bags of general waste, such as beer cans, bottles, cereal packets, waste food etc into black bags. There was actually an 1100 litre waste bin full of this general waste. We gradually loaded the entire bin of black bag waste into the W40 baler. The over-flowing bin of general waste made only one bale of waste measuring about 70cm x 50cm x 60cm. the bale weighed about 50kg. Two of us managed to lift it and drop it into the empty 1100litre bin. We estimated we could get about 4 of these full bins into 1 bin from now on.

Mr Peaker is going to organise a small recycling centre for clients to separate the cardboard, plastic bottles and cans. By removing all these items from his waste stream, he will have all the baled waste removed free of charge, for recycling. The remainder of the general waste will be greatly compacted and as a result much less waste volumes will be going to landfill.
