Car Insurance Finding Specialist Insurance for Women

A survey by Brake, the British road safety charity has revealed that most drivers were unaware that men posed the greatest risk on the road. Of those questioned, only 46% believed that men were poorer drivers, while 42% believed that the risk factors between the sexes were evenly matched. However, Home Office Statistics showed that, last year, around 97% of all dangerous driving convictions were incurred by men. In a separate study by the Social Issues Research Centre (SIRC), these results were further qualified. This study shows that women are just as likely as men to make lesser mistakes, such as stalling at junctions, but they are less likely to 'thrill seek' when compared to their male counterparts. A spokesman for the SIRC said: "At the beginning, up to the age of about 25, a young man is much more likely to kill or injure himself than a young woman."

The first people to sit up and really take notice of this research were the insurance companies. The insurance industry is a very sophisticated one and pays attention to the data collected by various bodies. Given that insurance is based on risk assessment, many companies have decided to issue specialist insurance for women, offering them lower premiums and more perks than to men. This reflects the fact that they pose less of a risk to insurers and are less likely to make compensation claims.

Further research from the SIRC also showed that women are less likely to go for high performance or 'tricked up' cars. As a result, they are less likely to become the victims of auto-theft. This factor on its own has a significant bearing on the amount of insurance drivers pay on their cars. Modified or high performance cars naturally fall into much higher insurance categories. So the fact that most women choose to go for cars that fall into lower insurance groups is a guiding factor in the type of insurance offered by providers who specialise in women's car insurance cover.

Finding car insurance used to be a tricky business, but has now been made much easier, thanks to the Internet. There are hundreds of insurance companies, each offering different incentives to attract customers. For money-minded women looking for an insurance bargain, this used to mean trawling through the Yellow Pages and making endless telephone calls in order to find a reputable company that offered the best cover at the best premiums. Now, however, the Internet has made things easier. Although there are still huge numbers of companies looking to court custom, online comparison sites have made it possible to source the company that best suits your needs, simply by clicking a button.

More and more women drivers are using online comparison sites to find cost-effective car insurance. Online comparison websites are sites that collate the pertinent information from insurance companies across the Internet and present them in an easy-to-read format. The benefits of this are that you save time and that you do not have to wade through the jargon that often accompanies an insurance sales pitch. Instead, the perks, premiums and incentives are displayed alongside those offered by other companies so that you can compare the differences between policies at a glance. In addition, most online comparison sites tend to research the reputability of each company before presenting their data on the Internet. In addition, many of these sites have links to the application pages of insurance companies, so you can apply for your policy once you have made your choice.

For drivers of either sex, there are other measures you can take to ensure your policy gets you the best cover for your cash. In addition to driving carefully, fitting your car with anti-theft devices and ensuring that it is parked in a safe and secure place shows an insurer that you take your responsibilities as a driver seriously and that you want to take care of your assets. While accidents and mistakes are an inevitability, it is possible to ensure that you have a good financial buffer should these situations arise.
