In this article we will discuss the important health link of candida and probiotics. Most commonly referred to as friendly bacteria are candida probiotics which literally means "for live". When you consider bacteria, often times the bad effects come to mind first, as something which makes you sick. Note that the candida probiotics are also a form of bacteria, but they provide the natural treatment that is essential in the remedy of any yeast infection.

Certain situations can cause the normal, healthy internal harmony we have with bacteria to get out of control. Changes in the pH of our gastrointestinal system can alter the number and type of organisms inhabiting our body. Without the right amount of candida probiotics, the intestinal environment of our intestinal tract becomes toxic and leads to a state of dysbiosis.

If any of these conditions are met, candida can grow and morph into a form that is disease causing. The pathogenic candida form releases toxins into our bloodstream and turns into a systemic yeast infection. A candida overgrowth also effects our immune function, causing it to become irritable, leading to allergic reactions.

Part of the goal in treating a yeast overgrowth, particularly an overgrowth in the intestines, (also called intestinal Candidiasis), is to regain the healthy bacterial balance that existed before the disruption took place. This is accomplished by replenishing and introducing the right candida probiotics.

The definition of a probiotic is any living organism that provides a health benefit to the host when present in adequate numbers. Candida probiotics are developed specifically to address the underlying imbalance caused by a yeast infection. Yeast probiotics are friendly bacteria that are good for our body. They are developed and processed in specialized laboratories and can be taken in various forms like capsules, gel caps, tablets, liquids and also vaginal suppositories. Researchers have successfully used candida probiotics in the form of vaginal suppositories in the treatment of vaginal yeast infections.

In the intestinal tract, candida probiotics normalize the acidity of the gut and help the lining of the bowels become less leaky. The level of inflammation is reduced and immune function is improved. Once pathogenic candida, which thrives poorly in an acidic environment, is replaced by healthy bacteria, the new organisms lower cholesterol, improve digestion, reduce toxicity and aid in the digestion of lactose

In general, candida probiotics prefer an acidic environment which is low in oxygen and are reduced when our diet is low in refined sugar and higher in complex carbohydrates and protein.

Most commonly used in candida probiotic therapy are two types of bacteria. The first are species of Lactobacillus such as acidophilus, casei, reuteri, rhamnosus and planterum. Candida can be controlled with a probiotic such as lactobacilli because lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide are natural byproducts of this good bacteria which creates an acidic environment. Furthermore, they create molecules that are deadly to other life forms and bio surfactant molecules that are slippery and which hinder the attachment of harmful organisms.

Also, there is a second type of probiotics, known as Bifido bacterium, found to be effective in treating pathogenic candida as well as other types of bacterial overgrowth. Acetic acid, hydrogen peroxide and antibacterial substances are produced by Strains of Bifido bacteria and they inhibit other bacteria and candida.

Although the most common candida probiotic agents we all utilize are the live cultures present in yogurt, consuming yogurt for bacterial infections such as intestinal candida is not enough to make a true difference.
