Can a Homemade Solar panel really reduce my electricity bill?

When I saw that my energy costs where getting out of hand I decided to cut down my bill and I started to build my first homemade solar panel. I saw that in 2005 I paid $2.100 annually for my electricity, which is somewhat more than the normal household pays ($1.900). In 2007 this grew to $2700. Sounds familiar? This was really a problem for me. So I asked myself how I could save my power bill? I requested a solar installation business to make me an offer for professionally installed solar panels.I was surprised when they gave me a figure of over $26,000 for a simple solar installation on my house. Where solar installations just for those that already have the money, I asked myself.

I didn´t have the funds for a qualified contractor to install solar panels and the pay- back time was way too long. I coudn't even afford such a system even if I would have received the federal support (up to 50% for a solar system in the form of tax credits, rebates, reduced permit fees or cash back systems). I started looking on the internet if there where alternatives or second-hand installations to be bought.

Thats when I found out about DIY guides which would be able to help you build your own homemade solar panel. The guides helped a lot in building my panels. I´m OK on the mechanical stuff, but I feel less at ease with the electrical part of a homemade solar panel installation. And there the manual and its instructions where a great help. I bought a manual and I started to build my first homemade solar panel and I was really content with the result.

1. It reduced my always increasing energy bill. Utility corporation’s rates have been steadily growing by about 6.7% every year, with a 30% jump in the last three years alone. I reduced my power bill with 80% (in average over the year) after I made my own homemade solar panel.

2. The costs of the system are very low. I never regretted the investment. I managed to keep the costs for the materials at around the $200 and paid $49 for the manual itself. I therefore had a pay-back of less than a year.

3. Quality of Instructions. With the manual I could make a solar panel entirely by myself. Great images and videos made making a homemade solar panel a pretty easy task (and I´m not a DIY savvy) and a enjoyable DIY project.

4. Green Choice: I´m contributing to the energy challenges our earth is facing.

I was searching on the internet or I would be able to discover more info about a homemade solar panel and if there where more manuals on hand. I was so pleased with the reducing of my power bill that I wanted to understand how I could be the most effective (I found out that solar hot water heaters are far more effective than solar panels for electricity) On my roof I now have a lot of soloar panels. I can recommend this to everyone!
