Buying Adjustable Dumbbell Sets

You have a lot of flexibility when putting together a new gym as to what type of fitness equipment you will place in it. Lately, one of the more popular pieces of fitness equipment being sold at stores is the adjustable dumbbell.

The reason this surprises us is that for the past decade or so, the major types of fitness equipment that we have seen advertised on television, radio, and newspapers are all in one machines such as treadmills, all sorts of bicycles, and so on. Dumbbells, in fact, seem like a throwback to the sixties and seventies where they were among the predominant types of equipment being used in gyms.

One of the reasons for their comeback is that people are re-discovering the benefits of dumbbells. This is especially true for women, who rarely used weights in the past for fear of developing muscles. One of the main forces driving this new interest is the relatively recent acknowledgement that weight training helps to build bone density. With many women becoming more aware of osteoporosis or bone loss, working out with dumbbells offers a healthy way to not only halt bone loss but to build up bone density. And when it comes to weight training, there are few things better than barbells and dumbbells.

Warranty and name brand are two features that you should look for in buying a set of dumbbells. Name brand companies have their reputation to protect and are much less likely to try to pawn off inferior quality products on you. In fact, in many cases, they managed to become name brands solely on the basis of their product quality.

This doesn't mean, however, that you should avoid the lesser known brands. As a matter of fact, you can sometimes get even better quality from the lesser known and up and coming brands trying to establish themselves in the marketplace. But you do have to be more careful in purchasing equipment from these companies, simply because they have no track record. On the other hand, if you are looking for a deal, the non-brand training weights should be a lot less expensive.

The best guarantees are typically those that are either lifetime in nature or ones that remain in force as long as the original buyer retains ownership. If the company is new, however, a guarantee does not mean so much as the company may go bankrupt before you've really had a chance to put their product th through its paces. But, if a company is an established company, a guarantee is worth a lot more. In any case, however, the guarantee is a factor that should be considered when evaluating two pieces of similar equipment.

Evaluating fitness equipment is much easier today than it was even ten years ago. It used to be that you would have to wait for the popular review magazine to come out and hope that they were testing the product you were interested in buying. Or you would have to see if your local TV station was doing a feature article on your product or interest.

Today, however, there are many review sites whose sole purpose is to review your product of interest. If you are thinking of buying an adjustable dumbbell set, and you have one in mind, you can easily find what other consumers think of that product by visiting one or more of these review sites.
