When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, people saw so much potential. The development from there has just been immense. Businesses today cannot operate on one phone alone and has instead been operating with the switchboard. People used to think of switchboards as something that could never be used by so many different places. Now there are different types of switchboards and this would’ve been unimaginable to those in the 1800’s.

The analog is definitely the oldest form of a switchboard. The analog will do what you need from a switchboard like connecting to everything that is a telephone line. The switchboard can be tracked back to the 1800’s, where obviously, it was used in a very old fashioned way, but used nontheless. This system is one of the most cost effective ways of connecting your business. A switchboard used to be handled by hand, where there was an occupation for ladies to connect people to different areas of a city, now it’s as simple as having one person handle the switchboard and then pushes a button to support the extension.
Then there’s an IP system which uses the PABX. It does what normal switchboards do but it is able to switch between IP addresses. This is more sophisticated than the analog switchboard.

If you are considering a switchboard you should ask a consultant that would know everything there is, and would be able to explain to those who are “technologically impaired”. There are plenty switchboards you are able to choose from and each of them has their own specialist field, you just need to determine what your company would need. A company needs to operate smoothly and without the hassle. If you have a smaller business you might think that you have a disadvantage over bigger companies that can afford these highly developed switchboards.

The main feauture a switchboard offers is to be able to connect with people internally and externally. With so many business competing against each other, people need to be able to be the best at everything in their business including the communication process.

The inspiration for the switchboard probably came from the phrase “time is money”. If a business has a lot of staff members then it is vital that there is a type of switchboard. This will create chaos; it’s almost like putting one bathroom in a building with 100’s of staff and visitors. It simply does not work.
The switchboard will keep on developing and will continue to be a vital part of a company. A company’s switchboard operator now needs good experience in this field and someone will probably one day make a degree for switchboard operators.

In conclusion when deciding on which switchboard you should use for your company, ask someone experienced. The different types of switchboards can become confusing and you should therefore seek professional advice.
