Building a List with Unusual Tactics

If you're an Internet Marketer you probably already know that having a large, purchasing mailing list is of the highest importance. In fact, you'd be remiss if you weren't putting most of your efforts into building such a list once you have your product for sale on a decent website.

There are plenty of guides out there on how to build your list, and they will instruct you on the basics. All advise creating a freebie relating to your niche, then marketing this giveaway with an opt-in page where people who want it will give you their email address. You'll benefit from this article if you've begun that process and have advertised your squeeze page in spots using safelists, forum signatures, published articles, newsletter ads, etc. Here we'll discuss additional techniques of adding to your list that are a little more unusual, but effective.

Tables at the Fair

Obtain a spot at the local county or state fair. This will cost you something, but the returns should be worth the cost.

Find a physical product you can obtain at a low price and give away. It should be something of value or something neat within your niche. Put a sticker on it with the website address for your squeeze page. You could obtain hundreds of local list members for a day's work.

Post Flyers

Write up a quick sales-type flyer about your opt-in page freebie. Print up a few hundred copies. Then stick it up anywhere you can think of - in the park, community bulletin boards, grocery stores, utility poles in high foot traffic areas - everywhere.

After you've hit all your local areas, pay someone 25 - 50 cents per post to put them up in more remote areas. Doing this you can not only post them faster, but you can market to areas you couldn't get to yourself; perhaps globally! This will cost you a little cash, but could reach thousands. Remember to get proof that the person you hired has actually posted as many flyers as he or she claims. For example, you might require they give you a list of all locations and take pictures of all. You can then randomly choose locations from the list to ask for those pictures.

Advanced JV Swap

You need a somewhat sizable list for this one to work - at least 500.

Find a Clickbank product in your niche with a low gravity rating, say 10-30. Contact the owner offering to mail a sales letter to your list without an affiliate link, just the owner's own page if, in exchange, the owner will put your opt-in ad on the thank you page.

Say you'll also show him an easy method to get a higher gravity score. When he agrees provide him with the link to CBCentrifuge.com with instructions to create about 20 affiliate links and put them in the free CB Centrifuge software. This software rotates those affiliate accounts whenever the owner makes a sale. To Clickbank it looks like 20 different affiliates are making sales, which increases the product's gravity rating. A bigger gravity rating means more affiliates will work to sell the product.

You'll get a big increase in your list plus a new partner for any future joint ventures you may implement.

Amazon Review Videos

Many people know you can write book reviews for items for sale at Amazon, but not everyone is aware you can record your review on video. The first thing you need to do is find a book in your niche at Amazon.com. Read it. Then make a video of yourself talking about the book and how valuable it was to you in your business.

There are several list-building opportunities here. First, you can overlay the URL for your squeeze page unobtrusively on the video. Second, at the end of your video review, invite watchers to learn more about your niche topic by visiting your site and becoming a member of your list. Thirdly, put your website URL in your member profile at Amazon. That way when people click on your name, they'll link to your site.

What kind of people do you want most on your list? Online buyers! That's exactly what you'll get from Amazon.

Wrap Up

When it comes to building a list your imagination is the only limit. Think globally, regionally and locally. Think offline as well as online. Take the time now to give things away free in exchange for the opportunity to make more sales later, over and over again!
