plugged drainage can occur when some material such as hair, dust and particles become trapped in the area between your bathroom drainpipe and the drainage pipes that follow underneath. The problem gets worse when the particle build up is cemented together by the residues of detergents and cleansing cosmetic items. Finally the accumulation becomes too thick to allow any water to pass through and it is then that the drainage get completely choked. If you notice water getting accumulated in your tub or sink, you definitely have blocked drainage.

How do you unblock your drains?.

If you're facing a stopped bathroom sink or bath drainpipe problem, there are a couple of different things you can do to get things flowing smoothly again. First of all the plug should be removed. With a bathroom sink this can be as easy as pulling it right out or as complicated a problem as looking under the sink and removing the nut that holds it in place. In case of your bath, the plug can be unscrewed at the mouth of the drainage or the overflow plate can be removed to expose the assembly.

You might be able to see the reason for the blockage after you have successfully taken the stopper out. You are most likely to see bunch of hair and other debris entangled in a blockage. Try to get as much of this out as possible by hand, this could solve the drainage problem. If it is difficult to reach the area where the blockage is located, or difficult to grasp the mass, simply use a bent wire clothes hanger to help you do the job. As soon as the blockage is got rid of, water will start flowing freely through the drainpipe.

However, there is a chance that you will not be able to reach the blockage with the wire so you will have to try something else. A drainpipe plunger can help you get rid of blockages that are too deep down to reach by inserting your hand. To use the plunger the overflow drainpipe pipe should be covered first with the help of a wet cloth, this will make the suction stronger and make it harder for air to enter the pipes. Now, place the plunger straight away on the opening of the drainpipe, and thump it up and down a number of times. You may find that this suction-push action of the plunger loosens the clogged debris down the pipe and the collected water now drainage freely.

If the plunger method fails to properly unclog your drain, you may have to resort to using chemical drain pipe cleaner. This method should only be used as a last resort because the chemicals used are dangerous and can be harmful to your bathroom fixtures.

After taking all the steps that you can carry out yourself, if the clog still remains, it will be wise to call your neighborhood plumber or drainage services company for some assistance. Though it won't come cheaply, an experienced plumber's help can provide peace of mind.
