A field of ten horses is expected in Belmont betting on Saturday, June 5th. There will be 4 main contenders, a few dark horses and three big long shots in Belmont probabilities.

Does one of the huge longshots have a shot?

Belmont betting will more than likely like Ice Box and he is going to be succeeded in the probabilities by First Dude, Fly Down and Drosselmeyer. There will be a number of additional horses after those 4 and then the three big long shots. They're Spangled Banner, Stay Put and Uptowncharlybrown.

Spangled Banner probably doesn't belong in this race but trainer Rick Dutrow Jr has stated that the horse is doing fine. Spngled Banner doesn't have the resume of a winning horse, but he will have Garret Gomez in the irons, and he does have Dutrow as his trainer. Normally getting a jockey like Gomez would be good news but he did nothing aboard Lookin at Lucky in the Derby and then finished poorly aboard Dublin in the Preakness. Spangled Banner finished third last time out on April 17th in the Withers.

Uptowncharlybrown could be worth more of a look in Belmont odds than Spangled Banner. His trainer Kiaran McLaughlin believes the horse will like the distance. He could be a surprise horse in the Belmont with his long stride. At the Lexington Stakes, he came in third.

Another horse that is going to have big odds is Stay Put. His connections believe he will really like the mile and a half distance. Trainer Steve Margolis has been training him to race a long distance. Richard Klein, Stay Put's owner, also believes that he will like the long distance. He was fifth in the Risen Star and in the Louisiana Derby. The connections would have liked to have run in the Kentucky Derby but they didn't hold the graded earnings to make the field. They thought about holding back Stay Put and racing him in the Northern Dancer at Churchill Downs, however they came to the conclusion the distance of the Belmont might be a nice thing for Stay Put.

The additional starts for the Belmont include Make Music For Me, who finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby and is trained by Alexis Barba. With 9 career starts, he has 1 victory. An additional horse expected in the Belmont field is Preakness runner-up First Dude. Dale Romans is his trainer. First Dude has 1 victory in 7 career starts. Following the favored Ice Box, he could be the 2nd or third choice in the wagering.

Additionally in the Belmont field will be Game on Dude, Stately Victor, and Drosselmeyer. Of those horses it is feasible that Drosselmeyer getsa bit of support given that he was preferred against Fly Down in the Dwyer Stakes.

Anything can happen in the mile and a half long Belmont race. The three big longshots, Spangled Banner, Uptowncharlybrown and Stay Put could have long odds but in 2010's race they could have more of an opportunity than typical given that there isn't any star horse in the race.
