The field for Belmont Stakes gambling added another mount as Dave in Dixie is anticipated to be in Saturday's contest.

The mount concluded fifth in the Illinois Derby, 2nd in the Robert Lewis Stakes, and 6th in the San Felipe. He may prove to be the longest shot in Belmont Stakes odds.

A field of 11 mounts may occur in Belmont Stakes gambling. Dave in Dixie might have double-digit odds but he does have a quality jockey in Calvin Borel who won the Kentucky Derby aboard Super Saver. It would be a huge upset if Borel wins aboard Dave in Dixie, but owner Dawn Thrash had to take a shot. The mount worked a mile recently at Hollywood Park in 1:39.60. He concluded fifth in the Illinois Derby back in early April, and it was the fourth workout for the mount since then. Dave in Dixie has lost four races since he won at Del Mar last August.

The favorite in Belmont Stakes gambling will probably be Ice Box. The mount is coming into this contest very well and concluded 2nd in the Kentucky Derby. He worked four furlongs at Saratoga in 46.65. Hall of Fame trainer Nick Zito is very pleased about how Ice Box is doing. Zito will also be racing Fly Down in the Belmont and he may be a factor. He might prove to be the 2nd choice in Belmont Stakes odds, actually.

Last year there was no Triple Crown on the line and Summer Bird came from nowhere to win the Belmont Stakes. He was no fluke though since he progressed on to win the Travers and the Jockey Club Gold Cup. Could this year's contest be won by a mount out of nowhere? First Dude was 2nd in the Preakness and Ice Box was 2nd in the Derby. Both of those mounts may use the Belmont as a springboard to the rest of the season. Fly Down may also be a mount to watch as he was very extraordinary in his win in the Dwyer Stakes. Even a long shot like Uptowncharlybrown may make his mark in the contest. The most recent time there was no Derby or Preakness winner in the contest was in 2006 when Uptowncharlybrown's trainer Kiaran McLaughlin won with Jazil.

It is looking like a field of 11 for Saturday's Belmont. In addition to Ice Box, First Dude, Fly Down and Uptowncharlybrown, it will likely be Game On Dude, Stately Victor, Dave in Dixie, Drosselmeyer, Make Music for Me, Spangled Star and Stay Put.

The Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes are the 3 races that comprise the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. Located at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, the Kentucky Derby is one and a quarter miles in length. At the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, we find the Preakness Stakes, which is run at one and 3/16ths of a mile. Presented every year in Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, the Belmont Stakes is the final leg of the Triple Crown. The Triple Crown is for three-year-old thoroughbred horses, and winning all three of these races is regarded the finest achievement a thoroughbred can ever accomplish. Even so, no horse in the United States has won the Triple Crown since 1978, when Affirmed attained it.
