Does your breath really stink? I don't think anyone would blame you if you searched for a halitosis treatment if your breath did stink. Having bad breath can be really embarrassing. Do you know how it feels to speak to someone who has breath that smells like sweaty socks?

Luckily, finding a cure for bad breath is not an impossibility. This is a condition that millions of Americans have and many of these people will be able to find a treatment that will eliminate their problem. It is much easier to find than trying to find a cure for smoking.

There are certain foods that can give you bad breath or halitosis. Sadly, some of these foods might be your favorites. You must not eat any foods that are rich in protein, such as beans, dairy foods, red meat, and fish. You should also eliminate garlic, onions, and other spicy foods from your diet. These foods should be eliminated from your diet because they have odor-causing compounds which can get exhaled from through lungs.

Instead of eating those foods, you should eat more fresh fruits, such as pineapple and papaya, and vegetables, such as celery, parsley, and carrots. Many individuals who tried this change in diet have found it to be a fairly effective bad breath solution.

Adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet can also improve your health. Mothers constantly nag their children about eating fruits and vegetables for these very reasons.

Drinking a lot of water can also be an effective cure for bad breath. The water will wash away any food that may be remaining in your teeth, tongue, or gums. This is important because you do not want them to decay in your mouth because they can leave a really disgusting odor.

Practicing good oral hygiene is an additional way to remove the food. You should try to brush your teeth after every meal. You should also use dental floss or toothpicks to clean the areas between your teeth that are the cause of odor production.

The dental plaque on adjacent tooth surfaces can be removed with the dental floss. This will lower your chances of getting periodontal disease which has been known to cause halitosis.

A major contributor to smelly breath are the microbial deposits on the back of the tongue as many studies have shown. So you can also partially cure bad breath by brushing your tongue thoroughly to remove these deposits. When you are doing this you should be careful because applying too much force can cause you to gag.

Your breath can really stink when your mouth gets dry. When you are fasting this situation may occur. A good bad breath solution would be to chew sugarless gum throughout the day. Doing this will increase the flow of saliva in your mouth which will aid you in eliminating any remnants of odor-causing food. Be careful because this can lead to joint problems with your jaw if you overdo this. A few minutes of gum chewing at a time is sufficient.

You can also get dry mouth by drinking alcohol or anything with caffeine so you should stop it. You can also get dry mouth by taking medications, such as antidepressants, high blood pressure medications, and antihistamines. You should consult your dentist or doctor if you want more information on preventing dry mouth.

Numerous individuals use commercial mouthwashes. These people gargle a mouthwash for several seconds hoping that it can treat their halitosis. You can get the best results from the mouthwash by using it immediately before going to bed. This is because the flow of saliva is lowest at night which can ruin your breath. The mouthwash will stay in your mouth longer and have a stronger effect if you use it at night.

However, you will only temporarily mask the terrible smell for a few hours with this bad breath solution. At this point, no studies have proven that a mouthwash can serve as a long-term cure for bad breath.
