You need to get the right stroller – you AND your baby need to be comfortable with it.

You can search store after store and still not find the right stroller – because you don’t know what you should look for.

You could ask more experienced parents but basically, here’s what you should be looking for in a good stroller:

Safety first – always. You kept your baby safe for nine months inside you. You need him or her to be safe now. Is the stroller sturdy – even when carrying the all-important diaper bag? Take a good look at the harness system. A five-point harness is best to keep your inquisitive little squirmer secure. It works well for infants, too.

Next, take a look at the handle and the wheels. Is the handle adjustable for different heights of pushers? Make sure your six-foot tall spouse has no excuse not to take a turn on the stroller!

You should take the stroller for a test drive. It’s no good looking pretty unless the stroller is easy to push, even through crowds of shoppers. Walk quickly with it. Make sure the stroller doesn’t trip you up when you hurry.

Convenience is important in a stroller. Look for features like a sun canopy, rain hood and toy bar. Your baby will spend a long time in the stroller – in all weathers. But don’t discount an otherwise great stroller that doesn’t have a rain hood or other feature. All these things can be bought separately.

Your stroller must fold. If it doesn’t, it will be difficult to transport in a car. Make sure it fits in your car’s trunk. Many strollers fold easily with one hand, leaving you free to hold the baby too, which is great.

Light-weight is definitely good when it comes to strollers. You’ll be loading and unloading the stroller a lot! But don’t compromise on durability or comfort.

A great stroller idea is the travel system. That is a standard stroller with an infant seat that removes from the frame. That means you don’t have to wake up your sleeping infant to get them into the car. Just think of all the tears you’ll save. It serves as a standard stroller for older babies.

Do you have twins or two babies with a small age gap between? You may want a double stroller, but an easier solution is to clip two strollers together. That way, you can also use the strollers separately when you want to.

A stroller is an important buy. Make sure you get it right by considering your needs and those of your child.
