Walking down the aisles of a baby store can be quite overwhelming. It can really make it difficult for a parent to know which baby things they really need for the new addition to the family. There are so many baby products on the market today. Many of which you will in fact need, but there are also many that will just take up space and collect dust. This article will discuss two baby things that you really do need and two that you can leave at the store.
Now of course the most obvious baby items that are needed are a crib, car seat and diapers. However, there are other items that will make your life much easier if you purchase them. A baby carrier is a terrific baby item. You may not think that you really need one, but once you use it you will wonder how you survived without. It can be very difficult to get things done around the house when there is a new baby, being able to put the baby in the carrier to free up your hands and get some chores done is a wonderful thing. Not to mention if you do have a fussy baby it can get exhausting to carry the baby all day, your arms will need a break and the baby carrier will be a great help. Plus with your household chores done, you can actually rest while the baby is sleeping.
Another important item to have is a tummy time mat. The current recommendation to help protect your baby from SIDS is to put your baby to bed on his/her back. Since babies are sleeping on their back, most babies do not like to be put on their tummies even during the day. Nevertheless, tummy time is crucial for baby development. It gives them the opportunity to build upper body strength. Tummy time also helps to prevent the baby from getting a flat spot on the back of the head from spending so much time lying on their back. Since most babies do not enjoy being placed on their tummy having a good mat to distract them will be a big help.
One baby thing that you do not need is a wipes warmer. They are really not necessary. Your baby will not know the difference. Not to mention, wipes warmers are actually very good breading grounds for germs. This is a definite waste of money.
Another baby product that is really not needed, although some might disagree, is a diaper pail. It is a good idea in theory. However, you will most likely end up with a smelly nursery if you buy one. Most families tend to take out their trash everyday or at least every other day. Dirty diapers will barely have time to smell up the garbage. Whereas with diaper pails, it will take much longer to get to the point of emptying it, and you will start to get an odor from them. Purchasing the diaper pail refills can also get to be rather expensive. You are much better off just using the garbage pail and save your money for something you really do need.
