With stories of showbiz Practitioners having broken marriages, one cannot but wonder why? Some of the reasons we have heard have been centred mostly on infidelity, amongst other reasons. However this is not only common in the showbiz world, it’s an everyday thing that happens across all strata of society, but somehow because entertainers are always in the limelight, their privacy is no longer private to them alone as everyone gets an update of the latest news.

Currently the latest couples entangled in this divorce saga are Nollywood Stars Ramsey Noah and his wife, and also Monalisa Chinda with her husband Dejo Richards, both women want divorce at all costs. The question is what is responsible for this trend, is it that entertainers cannot find true love or have successful marriages,or is it that they trade their marriages for glamour and stardom why? Why? Why?

Bukky Write is another Nollywood diva that has suffered two broken marriages despite her desire for a perfect home with her husband and kids; she sure has a lot of experience and tale to tell. One would wonder why any man would give up such a beautiful and talented woman or why she, despite her desire for a happy marriage would opt to be a single mother. In this story she shares her view about tips for a successful marriage and why entertainers are victims of failed marriages and relationships.

On why Nollywood marriages crash, she says “One thing that I’ve noticed is that a lot of Nigerian men are not confident enough to marry successful women. Success doesn’t have to do with wealth. Most Nigerian men are not confident enough because if you are so confident you will believe that no one will take your wife away from you”.

She further pointed out that it’s not true that most actresses are unfaithful to their partners. In her words “I don’t believe that. Are you telling me that journalists are not faithful to their husbands? ... It is just an individual thing. It is just the fact that we are out there in the public. Are marriages between lawyers not breaking? What about doctors and nurses?... Do you get it? Everybody in Nigeria knows them, so if anything happens to any one today, they know. But a doctor that is living even next door you don’t know”.

Describing Nigerian men based on her experience from her two failed marriages, she says “Nigerian men? They are wonderful people... There is nothing like all men are dogs...because even if I decide to marry today, I don’t intend to marry a white man. And I believe there is a wonderful man out there for a wonderful woman”.

Experience they say is the best teacher, Bukky Wright further goes ahead to suggest tips for a successful marriage. In her words “First, you should be tolerant. Before being lovers, you should be friends. You should be loving and loving of course is nice, forgiving, enduring, but like I said, fall in love with your eyes wide opened. It doesn’t have to be because of money but you guys should at least have a balance.

The screen diva also adds “even if you are, you can be richer than your husband but you know that your husband is hardworking and has prospects. You can’t say you are rich and marry a lazy man that will just squander your money or does not know how to work for money. It doesn’t mean because the man is not rich, he doesn’t know how to work for money, fingers are not equal. Above all things look for a God-fearing man because if a man fears God, he would fear you as a human being. He should be a very accommodating per- son. Take his friends as yours and encourage them to come to your house and be accommodating yourself.

Apart from every other thing, you should be homely because if you are a kind of person that always wants to be on the street, you don’t ever see anything that will want to make you go back home, it is not a good quality for a woman, that is why you should make your house as comfortable as possible so something drives you back home. You should also have the spirit of togetherness. And one thing, don’t separate your rooms. Make sure you have one room so even if something happens, you will still sleep together in that room and somehow you still get to talk about it. And you’d get to finish it. Don’t sleep over a quarrel”.

Wao! What a long list of advise, experience indeed is the best teacher. Well a deeper look into these tips shows a very high level of truth and I do hope that this piece will do you a lot of good if perhaps you fall into this category. I also do wish our entertainers more lasting, and fruitful marriages at least for those that
