Step 4: Your body may be the worst enemy

Did you know that the average person can carry up to 25,000 volts of static energy? Sounds like a lot huh, but since the current level of energy is so low usually people don’t notice it. Make sure that if you are going to open your computer or another component near long haired pets, long carpets, near dryers, and anything that would cause you to get a shock from touching something make from metal. Arthur Leite Alves also points out that the optical media has a shelf life like anything else. A few years back we moved all the Aware Bear Computers data from zip drives into CDs. Five years later we moved the data from the CDs into DVDs. That opened a lot of space, owner Andre Alves has plans to move the data into 8.5 gig DVDs and cut the DVD usage in half.

By doing that Aware Bear is sure that the data is being stored in Medias that can be easily used. It would not be of much help if someone had all their backup done in Zip disks and got a new computer today and could not get any of the old data off the disks.
