He looks cool, calm, and collected like one of those medical students even though he wears no optical glasses. Contrary to his looks, he’s as strong and rugged as steel, a characteristics he displays in his style. He’s got the vibes, the lyrics and the rhythm, he is Provabs.

Now don’t ask me why he chose to spell his as P-r-o-v-a-b-s as compared to the P-r-o-v-e-r-b-s we all know. May be it’s just one of his “steel” characteristics.

A student of Industrial Relations & Personnel Management of the Lagos State University (LASU), Provabs is surprisingly a gospel artist who has been in the act professionally since 1999 when he hooked up with a group called dot.X (Deacons of the Christ). The three guys group started off from the church which they were able to later take out to the main stream. At a point two of the group members had to leave because of academics, and he Provabs was left with the option of either backing out also or continue. He chose to continue and so Provabs was born in 2002.

Considering his lyrical prowess and hip-hop style, I was curious to ask why he opted for Gospel music, he responds like this “I would say I was influenced by my background. Music started for me in church, I can remember at the age of eight doing solo with my brother... I picked up lines from our family morning devotion and also from the bible as a child... I also want to be remembered as someone who added value to people’s lives through music”.

Christened as Aina Subomi Anthony, Provabs debuted with his first track “God’s Son” which featured Rooftop Mc and has ever since not relented on his efforts. He describes peoples’ response to his music as “Tremendous” with four singles on air from year 2000 till date. The tracks are; God’s Son, Won tip o to, all I need, and I no fit shout, which is presently gaining massive air play.

If you call him a Collabo Master you would not be mistaken, aside featuring Rooftop Mc in his debut hit song, he has also featured in Ige’s classical hit “Kosi” which he fused with rap and hip-hop. Provabs is also on Infinity’s forthcoming album. That’s not all about this Collabo Master, his forthcoming album which is a combination of different genre of music would also feature artists like Jedi, Dekunle Fuji, MNC, and Africa’s best hip-hop artist M.I.

The forthcoming album which is titled “STEEL” has a touch of various Producers like Mr Daz, LR7, one of Cobhams inhouse producers amongst others. With all these in store cooking in one album, I bet you don’t want to miss listening to the album which would be out soon.

Everyone always or most times have a second choice; Provabs says if he wasn’t into music, he would have been into photography which he loves so much. He says he might consider doing something professionally with it in future.

The dark skin Lagos born rap artist says he relaxes by reading novels, watching movies, writing and being in the studio “cooking up beats”. As a talented writer, he writes most of his songs and also does commercial writing for others.

A straightforward businesslike Artist, Provabs urges gospel artists to step up their game and present their music with more professionalism as they shun mediocrity. In his words “We should create competition and be world shakers... I believe there’s a spot in the heart of everyone that needs to be filled”.
