So, you wrote an article, which you then submitted to some article directories, and it has gotten approved. Now what? Actually, just utilizing a handful of basic additional promotion tactics with your articles can make a world of difference. Some writers think that just because the article directories have a great Page Rank, and a million indexed pages, that all they have to do is write the article while the rest takes care of itself. Nothing could be less accurate, let’s look at how you can advertise your articles for better exposure, and thus much better search engine rankings.

The primary concern when it comes to search engine rankings, is back links. You got to have decent back links linking to your article in order to influence the search engine that your article is relevant to the search term the surfer uses to find articles on that topic. When we say “good back links,” we are referring to links that originate from websites that have a great Page Rank, Alexa Rank, and search engine results rank. It will be difficult to find sites with all three of those qualifications, but locating a site with just one of them is good enough. There are numerous tools, free and paid, on the web that can assist you in finding lists of websites that make high-quality back link prospects. You can even do a web search on “list of high PR dofollow websites” and get a sizeable amount of results.

If you picked up on it, we used the word “dofollow” in our search term. A site can classify the outgoing links on their page as being either DoFollow or NoFollow. These terms basically notify the search engine spiders, which index the sites, whether or not they should follow outgoing links and let the source (the site who has your link) count towards the target site’s (your site) search engine rank. Lots of websites have chosen a firm NoFollow policy to inhibit people from spamming their website’s comment pages and forums to death. Your task is to locate the sites that still have a DoFollow link policy. Luckily, new websites open every day, and a lot of of the site creators have no clue what the difference between DoFollow and NoFollow is. Several people sell lists of DoFollow websites that allow link posting; you can find these people on popular forums such as Digital Point and the Warrior Forum.

Another fantastic way to get quality back link publicity to your articles is to use the Social Bookmarking sites, such as Digg and StumbleUpon. Of course, posting to these websites takes time, a lot of time. To make this process simpler, there are some tools, free and paid, which will submit your article to a group of these websites automatically. There are free services, such as OnlyWire, which will submit to the more popular ones for you. You still have to setup the accounts and profiles, but once it is done you are good to go. Having your article link on these sites will definitely classify your link as relevant to the search engines, so the more the better.

Another awesome method of promoting your articles, one that isn’t used that much is to promote your article link with other articles. So, instead of promoting your affiliate link in the resource box, promote a link to your best article in there. If you use this method in combination with an automatic article submitter, you could easily get hundreds of quality backlines in a very brief period of time. As with all these techniques, gradual is the best policy. Search engines will notice if your website goes from no back links, to 10,000 in 12 hours. Instead of ranking higher, you will likely get banned instead. You should try to stick around 30 to 100 back links per day, but the choice is yours. The search engine ranking system changes constantly, so what works today might be better or worse tomorrow. You just have to keep at it routinely, and you’ll succeed.
