Obstructed drains insights for the unfortunate

This has happened to all of us - the water fast submerging our toes while are taking a shower. How disgusting! the drain pipe is clogged . What about that wet sinking feeling when you are brushing your teeth at the washbasin on a lousy Monday morning and the filled sink just refuses to drain pipe!. Everyone hates choked drainage because they not only create problems but are also unhygienic and can create a mess. However it is something that every household has to deal with, sooner or later. So you should know how to unblock them, well in advance.

Why Do They Happen?.

Hair, dust and other particles getting stuck in the space between the drainpipe and the pipes are the main cause. The condition gets worse when products like conditioners, shampoos and detergents accumulate in the already obstructed drainage. Eventually the clumps of accumulated matter prevent water from draining out quickly or may even completely seal the drain pipe hole. If water builds up quickly in your sink or tub when it should flow smoothly out of your drain pipe, you may already have a plumbing clog on your hands.

How to unblock Your drains.

Time to roll up your sleeves and tackle the blockage - here are a few tips on what you can do to unclog your bath or sink drain. The first thing that you need to do is to remove the plug of your sink or bath drain pipe. In case of a bathroom sink, the plug can be removed easily with a simple pull or it might need the complex effort of unlocking the hook keeping it in place from under the sink. In the case of a bath, an overflow plate may have to be detached so that the entire assembly can be opened up, or there may be provision to unscrew the stopper at the drain itself.

Once you remove the stopper, you may then be able to see the source of the clog. Those greasy lumps of entangled hair and residue can be seen sticking to the sides and corners of the drain pipe. Clear out as much of the blockage as possible. Use a wire from a clothes hangar or some other apparatus if you have difficulties reaching the clog or grabbing the build up so that you can pull it out. Your drain pipe is likely to get unclogged if you remove the soap scum, hair and other particles from it that you can see.

However, there is a chance that you will not be able to reach the blockage with the wire so you will have to try something else. A plunger will be helpful next step in removing clogs that are out of the reach of your hand. Ensure that you have placed a wet rag on the overflow drainpipe - this will produce better suction pressure from the plunger. Then put the plunger over the drainpipe mouth and press it up and down repeatedly. When you finally release the plunger, any trapped water should immediately be drained.

Even the plunger may not clear the most dense and hardened matter inside your plumbing system - that's when you will have to deploy a chemical drainpipe clearing product. Chemicals used in these cleaners are deadly and are to be used only when all else fails as they can affect your sanitary fixtures and pose a health hazard.

Get expert help if this is necessary, call in a drainage contractor.

If the above methods fail to solve your obstructed drainpipe problem then you may have to contact a plumber. A professional plumber should quickly solve your problem with his special tools and equipment. Taking professional help will cost you a bit but it is definitely worth it.
