Two words often associated with the anti Candida diet are confusing and frustrating.

So many people start the diet eager and willing then see how little the diet allows them to eat and become despondent.
But it is not like the allowed foods are even the same for everyone – no. In some versions you are allowed whole grains, tomatoes and cottage cheese right from day one, in other programs you are not allowed any carbohydrates, nightshade fruits or dairy at all – so what gives?
A definitve Anti Candida Diet still eludes us. What we do have is a method of consuming food that the Candida fungus cannot live on.

Several programs recommend that all foods you may be sensitive to are removed from your diet, therefore a major part of your success comes down to you being happy to follow them.

Tip 1 - Phase one of an anti Candida diet
Stage One is boot camp, this is the first two to four weeks of the diet and the hardest. Any foods containing preservatives, carbohydrates, dairy, sugar, mold, starches, gluten and wheat must be removed from our diet.
Well what can you eat?. Only the following can be part of your diet - broccoli, cucumber, peppers, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, leafy green vegetables, silverbeet, zucchini, nuts, seeds, omega oils, chicken and fish.
Tip 2 - Contentious foods on an anti Candida dietThis is where some confusion comes in because some plans say that it is OK to eat foods like low sugar fruit, cottage cheese and whole-grains right from the start.
The best advice here is to go with what you feel is OK and do your best. If you get any reaction whatsoever from anything then immediately stop eating it for two weeks.

Tip 3 – A food diary
Supplements are a big factor in an anti Candida diet and the timing of these is critical to their efficiency. Keeping track of them as well as any foods that you have introduced and your reaction to them can often be a nightmare, so keeping a food diary is a great idea here.

Tip 4 – Introducing foods
There are two important points here - reintroduce foods slowly, as in one serving a day, and take note of any adverse reaction that you get from eating them. If any occurs then stop eating the food for another two weeks.

Tip 5 – Anti Candida Diet Cravings
There are many things that can cause food cravings, from hormones, mineral imbalances, blood sugar levels and Candida.

The best idea here is to question all cravings and ask yourself whether they really are a need or a ‘want’. If you decided that it is a ‘need’ then still wait 5 minutes before eating it – this usually works – believe me!
