Antarctica Trip Lucrative for Cruise Ships

After stepping down the cruise liner's gangway with care, I waited to make my move, looking for a break in the waves. With a quick stride, I settle onto a small rubber boat. In a matter of minutes, our small team of tourists went bouncing through a napping seal and brilliant blue ice. To get to the Antarctic Peninsula's northern area, I swing my legs over the zodiac, stepping to the northern tip right after my boat stops at the rocky beach.

My senses were overwhelmed by a pungent smell and an extraordinary sight as I walked along the beach, ridden with blocks of ice. More than a hundred adelie penguins waddled adorably around and even in front of me. High up the crags of a slope, their numbers stretched, just about as much as I could bear to see. This is the first landing we have on this remotest among all the continents, and indeed, this two day cruise through infamously unrelenting oceans, from Ushuaia, Argentina, is worth every cent. Many tourists all over the world are now being captivated by this crystalline kingdom located at the end of the Earth and make them realize it is worth going to.

Through the years, numbers of visitors grow and just last year, 26,000 trooped here. Sneaky penguins even have lectures dedicated to them and this seems to ward of swirling blue patterns. The weather is extremely pleasant during the Decembers of the austral summer even as this continent is known to be the world's coldest. Achieving 40s on the peninsula, there can be times when temperatures grow extremely freezing. Trips are expected to run from November to March.

Welcoming around a hundred passengers on board, this 100 meter sea vessel goes around for 11 days, raging through ice waters with its tough exterior. The ship is comfortable, but not fancy. Many would frequent their lush bar and lounge plugs a placid library and a huge auditorium. To go on a trip to Antarctica, small yachts would be a good idea. Come Friday evening, we sail away from the port. The next day, we're already able to watch the powerful glides and graceful arcs of wandering albatrosses and other birds of the southern seas.

On board, experts help in passing time while such as an artist that teaches passengers to paint and draw icebergs or even penguins, exciting and informative talks from a renowned historian, geologist, bird specialist, marine biologist are just a few tricks tour guides have on their sleeves to keep people from getting bored as they sail across the seas. Lectures on global warming are surprisingly absent on this trip, though, but the topic is usually discussed.

The trip's highlights occurred in nearby islands and even during continental landings. It is truly unforgettable to hear the loud crack of a calving iceberg or witness an avalanche in motion from afar. A lot can be viewed right from the decks of the ship. Tourists get to revel in their sightseeing with very short time for darkness this time of the year.

As you climb up the deck to witness the huge array of wind crafted icebergs parade themselves, glorious in either blue or white shades, be sure to dress up to stay warm against cold, strong winds. Beautiful high mountains brimming with hanging glaciers are the pristine landscapes we feasted on. Few times, whales would be surfacing, showing their beauty. Sunsets are long lasting beautiful sights with hues of red and orange.

We were alarmed to hear that an elderly passenger was ill and had to be evacuated, as soon as we got back on the ship. This means that we will need to get an airstrip at the South Shetland Islands after a long overnight detour. Evacuations such as this one, which can cost a patient up to tens of thousands of dollars are pushing many passengers aboard group trips to truly consider getting medical evacuation insurance.

After the passenger was evacuated to Chile, we visited Ardley Island, where newly Gentoo penguins are being fed by their parents. The parent penguin puts the chick's head into his mouth cautiously to leave a slimy strand connecting their beaks as she regurgitates a snack of krill unto the young one's mouth.
