Here, David came across Sybil Kleinrock, a gifted painter who, much like David Yurman, just recently returned from the Californian beatnik scene. One day while wearing one of David Yurman's jewelry pieces to an art event, Sybil Kleinrock's adorment caught the attention of the gallery owner who asked if it was for sale. Although David Yurman didn't wish to recreating something so personal, Sybil Kleinrock recognized the commercial opportunity. In the early 1970's, David and Sybil shifted to the countryside and established Putnam Art Works. Throughout a decade, the creative duo showcased their designs and paintings at numerous craft fairs, & in 1979 they tied the knot.
Running Putnam Art Works allowed the couple to learn about the marketplace for fine crafts and jewelry, laying the foundations for the founding of David Yurman Inc, in 1980. Before long, Yurman had already made a name for himself with his signature cable bracelet.
