The America Buffalo Gold Coin is a gold bullion coin minted by the United States Mint, that started being sold on June twenty-two, 2006. The most notable distinguishing feature between United States American Eagles and American Buffalo coins is that the American Buffalo is 24 karat bullion gold coin, in other words 99.99% pure gold. The flagship U.S. Eagles are twenty-two carat gold, in other words .9167% pure gold, while the rest is a silver/copper amalgamate. Buffalo gold coins began as a result of increasing global demand for 24 K gold coins, and the popularity of Canadian Maple Leafs, Chinese Gold Pandas, and other 99.99 pure gold bullion items.

The 1 ounce gold buffalo coin has an official cost of fifty dollars. But as with different coins, this token value only denotes the coin is legal tender and has no practical connection to the coin's real value, that depends on the present gold spot price . The look of Gold Buffalos is predicated on the design of the Buffalo Nickel, that was minted from 1913 to 1938. The design, by James Earle Frase, shows an image of an American Indian man on the obverse, and an image of an American bison ( buffalo ) on the reverse. The obverse face also contains the date at the bottom left, and the word "Liberty" along the upper righthand side. The reverse face shows the name "United States of America" along the leading edge, under that to the right side are the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" which in Latin translates as "Out of many, one" ( a slogan employed in many official Yankee symbols ). It also reads "In God We Trust" at the bottom left, and towards the bottom the face price, and under the face worth the coin's weight and pureness of ".9999 Fine Gold".

The US buffalo gold bullion coin is also minted in fractional sizes of 0.5 ounce with an official value of $25, [*FR3] oz with a face value of $10, and 1 / 10 ounce with a face value of $5.

Buffalo gold coins have also been released in uncirculated and collectors' versions of better minting quality ( and high premium pricing ), but such coins have been pulled for the year 2009 due to unheard-of need for gold bullion coins. Additionally, 2009 production of the normal bullion buffalo coins have been put off until a later date. The majority of the augmenting investors' demand is for American gold eagles, so that the United States Mint is setting aside almost all of its gold stockpiles for their minting.

United States buffalos minted in previous years can be discovered in coin stores and bullion stores. But you will have to shop around to find one because there's no supply of new coins this year.
