Alternative hemroid medication occasionally suffers from something of a poor reputation. Sometimes this reputation is perfectly justified. More often, however, it's really not. The reason that alternative hemroid remedies get a bad rap is usually due to misunderstanding or misapplication. There are several forms of alternative hemroid therapy that are proven in clinical trials to work. There are a few methods that are out and out quackery. Understanding alternative hemroid remedies can make the difference between a quick recovery or a long and painful bout.

The first and most common form of alternative hemroid treatment is herbal medicine. Humans have used herbs for at least 10,000 years as their primary form of medicine. There are several herbs that are proven to work well on hemroids, including horse chestnut, butcher's broom and Japanese pagoda tree. However, herbs present some unique problems. It's next to impossible to accurately calculate the precise dosage of the active ingredient in each leaf. Therefore, it's impossible to achieve any precision in most herbal dosing at home. For some herbs, such as peppermint, this doesn't really matter. You'd have to work very hard to overdose on peppermint tea. However, the herbal remedies that work on hemroids are a bit more delicate and require more precision. Precise herbal dosing can be achieved by properly equipped herbalists, so most people are better off taking a specific preparation compounded by professionals.

Acupuncture is another alternative hemroid treatment method that's often touted. Of course, in the recent past acupuncture has been brought up as a cure for almost everything. It's difficult to believe that one technique can handle everything that Western medicine has struggled with for so long. In fact, of course, it can't. However, it's been shown to work on hemroids so much that the World Health Organization has added it to the list of approved hemroid treatments. If you can find an appropriately trained practitioner of acupuncture whom you can verify, this adds a powerful new tool to your hemroid fighting arsenal. If you can't find an acupuncturist you trust, or you just really hate the thought of needles, then acupressure may be a better way for you.

A number of alternative therapies have not been proven. Homeopathic remedies are one example of alternative medicine that has no scientific basis whatsoever. The odds are against even one molecule of the supposed active ingredient being in any given bottle of homeopathic medicine. If the solution doesn't contain the minimum active dosage, much less even one molecule, then it cannot be said to have any effect from a scientific point of view. In such a case, homeopathic remedies have the same basis of working as prayer, energy work, or reiki. If it does work, science can't begin to tell you why.

There are a number of alternative therapies and practitioners out there. Due to the unique nature of hemroids, one of them might be the best choice for your hemroids. Considering that the vast majority of hemroids are best treated at home, alternative hemroid therapy is often a good course to try prior to surgery. Use your common sense and basic knowledge of what can and can't be true, and you'll get the best help for your hemroids.
