Alternative remedies have flooded the market in recent decades, promising a cure for everything from acne to cancer. In many cases, it's much easier to dismiss all alternative therapies as scams and snake oil than to sort through the multitude. However, when it comes to hemroids, alternative remedies offer quite a bit that mainstream medicine can't really match. Traditional allopathic medicine only really offers symptom relief over the counter, while alternative remedies offer direct treatment. Of course, there's still the responsibility to sort through the various options offered to find which work and which really don't.

Herbal hemroid remedies offer the first and most well-documented line of alternative hemroid remedies. Many of these do actually work. After all, herbs represent the first line of medicinal knowledge humanity developed. Plants still offer many medicines today that we can't synthesize, and provide the basis for many more that we have learned to create artificially. Witch hazel, butcher's broom, horse chestnut and Japanese pagoda tree are some of the herbs that have a direct effect on hemroids. They offer both relief and and permanent healing when used correctly. This can be difficult to do, so a formulated herbal remedy or a custom preparation by a qualified herbalist are the recommended ways to use them.

Acupuncture is a Chinese system of medicine in which specific points on the body are pierced by super thin needles to stimulate healing. It's not very well understood by Western medicine, but clinical studies show real effect. Those clinical trials have proven acupuncture so effective on hemroids that it's endorsed by the World Health Organization. Acupuncture is taught by Chinese universities as part of an integrated program combining Eastern and Western medicine. Keep in mind that we're talking about someone piercing your skin with needles, so it's really, really important to find a qualified practitioner. The standards for qualification vary by each country, which can make this difficult. However, if you do your homework you should be able to find the best one available.

Homeopathy is a popular alternative hemroid therapy that can't be proven to work at all. The whole idea behind homeopathy is that substances that cause a health condition can be used to cure it in incredibly small doses. It was invented in the 1800's and worked off the theory that the very tiny doses stimulated the immune system into reacting to the problem. However, since then we've discovered that the dilution levels used in homeopathy mean that there usually isn't a single molecule of the supposed active ingredient in any given bottle. Scientifically speaking, this means that homeopathy can't possibly work.

There are many alternative remedies out there, and some of them can have a real positive effect on your hemroids. They can achieve levels of treatment that traditional over the counter medicines can't. However, like anything else, it's up to you to take responsibility for your own health care and find the best one for your particular case.
