If you’re a parent trying to help a 5 month infant sleep, then here is a question that may make you yawn. What were you doing this morning at 1am, 3am or even 5am? Establish a routine; your child will sleep much better if you establish a sleeping routine for day and night. Put your baby down for short (no more than 3 hours) naps at the same time each day. Take your baby to bed at the same time each night. Create the same bedtime routines that will signal to the baby that it is time for bed. A bath or reading a bedtime story can be a nice way to wind down and get ready for nice long restful sleep.

Encouraging good sleeping habits are a challenge for almost all new parents, and it’s usually because you’re so tired yourself. A word of advice; please do not try to make baby sleep longer at night by not letting him nap enough during the day, it will surly backfire. Babies need lots and lots of sleep, and naps are a critical part of this. Just don’t let him sleep for too long at a stretch during the day. Be patient, and sleep for a bit in the afternoon yourself, before you know it, both of you will be sleeping soundly through the night.

Ensure that there is lots of daylight in the house for the baby. Don't close the shades and blinds, when your baby is around have as much natural daylight as possible. Take your baby outside for a stroll during the day. If you can, take baby to classes that have exercise routines for mom and baby. Play games. Although it will be time consuming, if you keep your baby active and happy during the day it will help your 5 month infant sleep all night.
