Everyone loves to catch a movie on a Friday night or even watch a Wednesday night ball game. The fact is, most of us like to be entertained on a regular basis and movies and sports events are perfect for that. In order to truly enjoy these aspects we need to feel comfortable in our surroundings. Air conditioning for arenas and theaters can get sort of tricky especially when dealing with such a large space with high ceilings or open areas.

When arenas were first built everything was literally outside, so there was really no point in having any sort of air conditioning. Many arenas today are open to the elements, but new arenas now have roofs that can come to a close, and such a crowded place needs a strong air conditioning system to maintain the safety of the audience. The systems that are used for this sort of area is going to be the simple HVAC systems. Systems intended for large spaces will need the right ratio of air production to the volume of the venue. Too little air flowing through the system can rapidly pose a health problem, while too much may be deafening, and destroy the experience.

In theaters you are going to be utilizing the same system, but it will be tailored to accommodate noise reduction technology. The ductwork will also be different, because theater walls will not be able to carry the same types of ducts, due to soundproofing concerns. Any crowded area will also be a breeding ground for germs and bacteria, so a strong air filtration mechanism is required to maintain safe air qualities. The humidity must also be controlled for the comfort of the guests, and the protection of any equipment in the facility. In crowded spaces, overheating is always a concern, so care must be taken that your HVAC system can properly cool all areas of the building. If only the high or low spaces in a room get decent airflow, it is probably time to evaluate your system for efficiency.

Because proper air conditioning is a safety concern in any large venue, it is likely that regulatory agencies will dictate many aspects of your system. Be sure you know your building codes and procedures while searching for a system, or retrofitting an old one.

As time continues to go on, we will see many more advancements when it comes to air conditioning in arenas and theaters. If your guests feel comfortable in your venue, it will be reflected in your sales. It is important to keep health and safety concerns at the forefront of your mind when installing a new HVAC. Efficiency, and the experience of the guests will also be a factor in designing ductwork. Keep your audience in mind during all aspects of the process, and you will have a system that meets all your needs, and will not have to be updated later.
