Some church ads are generally aimed at winning back the lapsed Catholics. Images or video in an advertisement ranges from baptism, to the nuns playing soccer with youngsters, to priest celebrating the mass and having feast. These are no longer divine figures to be scared of or those who constantly judge your character by your behaviour.

Instead, these advertisements have portrayed the missionaries as somebody who are a piece of the society and enjoy their reputation as well. They are super cool, respected, knowledgeable and still comfortable with their images. Hence, it brings out an image of a multi-tasker, who does not care of the code of conduct that others expect them to pursue. And the simular time, they have their rock solid morals and ethics.

Church advertisements show a large number of activities inside a Christian church especially for the members. The word 'member' has been invented to assure a certain number of footfalls at a particular place. Hence, in this event, there are certain numbers of members of every church, who have paid and contributed in the building of that particular church, are called its members. On a regular basis, every church organise certain number of activities to continue the interest of their members intact and attracting new members.

For this, advertising campaigns are made, to encourage the inactive church goers or atheists to go on coming to the Christian church. In one such move, a $500,000 campaign has been launched by the Seattle Archdiocese, which includes TV and radio advertisements along with the print ones. In it, an ad will appear 4500 times on TV over the period of six weeks.

Also, some other vital function of an ad campaign is to hide the bad publicity or news about a particular church and highlight the beneficial things. For an instance, a church ad will not touch on abuse matters with youngsters or scandals with someone from the Christian church involved in it. Instead, they talk about the history of the place, spirituality, their contributions in the relief funds and all others beneficial things in which the Christian church was even remotely involved.

The idea behind this is to attract the former-Catholics, who were born Catholics but have left the religion in between and are in the lurch. The number of such souls is so large that almost every Christian church is attempting to win them back. These are mostly those mortals who have got fed up with the preaching of priest, which they discover is in no way useful and applicable to the lives they are leading.

Also, few of them are those who got fed-up with the scandals involving Christian church. But this only happens in the rare cases. The only way to win them back is to portray a clear and caring image of the Christian church, and clergy and makes the mortals realise that they too lives in the today's world with the problems and celebrations alike, rather than in the previous century.

According to a recent study by Pew Forum in America, it has been found out that among the total number of Catholics, 32 per cent of them have turned out to be an atheist while growing up. Even the Seattle archdiocese claims that they have around 600,000 practicing Catholics while 300,000 to 400,000 lapsed-Catholics. These figures really well indicate to the number of lapsed Catholics in the country.
