Read More About Fishing

Fishing is a popular recreational and sport activity in the U.S. As home to numerous exotic species of fish big and small, the country has attracted many people to go into fishing. The more adventurous enthusiasts do not limit themselves to the U.S. territory but often go out to the larger seas where a greater number of fish species abound.

In the Florida area, bass fishing is a well known activity. The black bass commonly known as simply the bass is one of the most popular North American gamefish with various species and subspecies including the largemouth, smallmouth, spotted and Guadalupe. Belonging to the sunfish family, this fish can be found in lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, creeks and reservoirs. While the bass can be eaten, anglers are now just catching and releasing them back to the water afterwards for recreation purposes only.

Bass fishing Orlando is usually done using private fishing charter services. These charters are manned by an experienced fishing guide who is capable of bringing clients to the right area where the bass fish thrive.
Due to its popularity, bass fishing in the U.S. has actually become a multi-billion dollar industry and sports activity. As a sport, it began in the early1800s to the middle part of the century. During that period, the more well off sport angles in the U.S. were already engaged in fishing trout and salmon. Bass fishing then was done using poles and live bait. It was later in the mid-1800s when artificial fly was used to fish for bass. At around 1900, floating wooden lures or lightweight cork became the trend.

As the latter part of the 19th century approached, the stocking of largemouth and smallmouth bass in ponds was allowed. This was a result of the expansion of the railroad system which required the construction of dams in small creeks to supply water for steam engines. The largemouth bass fish got stocked in tank ponds and lakes with warmer water temperatures while the lakes and rivers in the northern and western part of the U.S. became home to the smallmouth bass.

Bass fishing got established as a sport in the early 1900s with the rod and reel method becoming the popular choice for batching the bass. But while this method dominated the sport activity, it was only later in the 1950s when the spinning reels and rods were widely accepted.

Today, bass fishing competitions are held every now and then in the U.S. as well as in Japan, Australia and South Africa. The two most well known events in the U.S. are the FLW (Forrest L. Wood) series and the BassMasters. During these competitions, caught bass fish are immediately weighed and then placed in a live well before being released. A penalty is imposed to those who catch a dead fish.
