Looking for a Drug Rehab program can be a difficult task as there are hundreds of different addiction treatment facilities throughout the country. All drug rehabs that are quality programs have very similar agendas. No matter what the addiction, be it alcohol or drugs, there are a specific orders of operations that should take place.

The first action that a reputable drug rehab should do is put their clients through a detoxification process that controlled, safe and overlooked by trained medical professionals twenty four hours a day. It is not uncommon for a drug rehab to rush through the detoxification process although; medical professionals state that rushing the detox process is counterproductive. It is essential for clients who are in a drug rehab to be completely detoxed prior to entering the treatment aspect of their respected facility. This is pertinent as once an addict or alcoholic completes the detoxification process they will no longer suffer from physical cravings. If a client suffers from physiological cravings it will be difficult for them to concentrate on the psychological aspect of a drug rehab.

The disease of addiction is both physical and mental. Once detoxification is complete a patient will be moved out of the detox unit into either the men’s or women’s treatment facility. It is after the detox program that individuals start to work on the psychological aspects of their addiction. They will work with therapists individually and in group settings. Individual counseling will allow clients to work with therapists and certified addiction professionals to determine what has happened in their past that is making them try to escape their current reality by abusing drugs and alcohol. Group therapy will allow clients to work and talk with others who are going through similar situations. It is very comforting for clients to know that they are not alone in their journey to recovery.

At some point during drug rehab all clients should have the opportunity to participate in a family program. Even if their family is not able to make it to the treatment facility that is no reason why a client should not participate in the program. During a family program clients will work with the family members of other clients in group settings and vice versa. It is important for clients to understand what their disease is doing to their family members, as well as the family learning about the disease of addiction. Addiction is a family disease and every client should participate in the family program offered by the facility. This plays a major role in giving an addict and their family a different perspective on their addiction.

Lastly, all quality drug rehabs should put together a continuing care plan that specifically caters to each client’s needs. This plan may include an IOP (intensive out patient) program, attending a halfway house for a period of time, or ongoing therapy for a period of time. It is essential for a client to follow the continuing care plan that is put together by a drug rehab programs treatment team. Recovering from drug and alcohol abuse does not end after drug rehab. Recovery is a lifelong process that never ends. A continuing care program helps clients put the rest of their recovery after drug rehab into motion.
