It is a fact among the residents of a well-known American city that their community needs doctors and recently they have concluded that they are also needed by the doctors. In order to achieve success in any recruitment effort, packaging the community as ideal and attractive is extremely essential. Potential doctors will want the community to fulfill their needs and be guaranteed of a good place for them and their families especially in terms of education, safety, health, cultural and recreational aspects.

All the individuals affiliated to a hospital in need of more physicians maintains doctor recruitment as their main priority. The most successful form of recruitment is through community effort and this is what recruiting hospitals has learned in their experiences. Meticulous research has revealed the areas of health care delivery that needs improvement and it will allow the recruitment process to go on until these needs are addressed.

One of the biggest concerns in rural areas in the US is the drought of manpower in the medical and wellness field. A current federal publication has, in fact, defined these rural areas as medically underserved communities. It assigns a set of criteria to each community consisting of a series of designated point ratings in each of the following categories such as the percentage of the population below poverty level, percentage of the population over 65, infant mortality rate, and the number of primary care physicians per every thousand of the population.

Doctors who specialize in obstetrics-gynecology, pediatrics, family medicine and internal medicine are the only ones considered to be primary care doctors. After establishing this, a consensus between the board and members of the staff must be made to determine the kind of services demanded. The biggest goal of most hospitals lately is to recruit more obstetrician gynecologists. More doctors in the emergency room and family medicine practice are very much needed.

Recruitment of medical practitioners is a complex process thet involves the effort of community members and ensuring that the benefits derived from both the community and hospital are shown for the physician's greatest advantage. Advertisements in major medical publications that reach a huge audience of physicians in America is the first step to effective recruitment. Letters are written to the medical schools in the area in the hope of luring interested medical school graduates or residents. Staying in touch with the community is required of the local residents known to take up medical studies and the colleagues of the local physicians are constantly phoned and contacted.

A tour around town awaits the interested physician. The interested physician is treated to a hearty lunch and is sometimes required to stay overnight to allow introduction to the hospital and its staff. The hospital crew oftentimes go out of their way and offer their homes to throw a party for the potential new physicians while there are other times the orientations only happen in the hospital.

The physician is introduced to the current support services like the hospital radiology and pathology lab, as well as informed on the hospital's efforts on encouraging novel specialties and purchasing the equipments needed. The physician will also learn of the program that will enable him to continue his studies, as well as the assistance that he will receive in finding adequate office space and insurance coverage.

But the recruiters recognize that they must transcend the medical realm. The physicians that are parents must be introduced to the new school their children will be going to so that the children can come and get a feel of their would-be school.

The doctors will be introduced to real estate experts who will lead them to the home that will cater to their needs, as well as local bankers with the expertise on available loan and financing deals. However, the board of trustees and their hiring team may still be unable to produce the best results. While the hospital team can lead the new doctors towards the path, they still rely on the local community members to guide the new doctors on this new route by standing in as resource persons who are willing to answer any inquiries they may have.
