A comparison between Affiliate Marketing vs CPC advertisements

CPC most will know is cost per click or pay per click programs. In the online advertising industry the CPC program is a breakthrough. Initially there was only flat rate advertising, and advertisers paid based on the page impressions. It was www.goto.com which formulated this concept of pay per click, as this added more value to the advertisers; they need not pay anything for impressions. Goto.com later became overtures and then acquired by yahoo.

Now coming back to the point, from a webmasters point of view, how can someone earn from money from CPC. You have to create a website or a blog and then place a particular code given by google adsense, yahoo search engine marketing or Microsoft adcenter (there are other players as well). Let us consider the case of google alone, we need to sign up for google adsense program, which can be done at www.google.com/adsense . To do that we need to have a website or blog and don't forget you also need to have some original content in your site.

Once you got that done, google will then give you a code and you need to place it in your website. Now this code will bring in advertisements that are related to the content that you have in your site, and when the visitors of you site click on the ad, you will get money (advertiser will pay google and google will pay your commission after taking a part of that money). It is interesting, and above all it is very simple to implement and earn right away, all you need to do is drive traffic (Learn about monetization and driving traffic from the corresponding section in www.greatwealthyaffiliate.com )

Now comes the topic on which is better? Online Affiliate Marketing or CPC based advertisements? Which is better in monetizing your site and traffic?

1) The biggest advantage of CPC is you need not worry if someone is purchasing a product or not after clicking the advertisement in your site, but mere clicks won't give you money in case of affiliate marketing, after clicking on the affiliate product the visitor need to purchase it, only then you will get your commission.
2) In case of CPC we need not worry about the advertisement, as google will take care of it, and will only put related ads in your site, but in case of affiliate marketing, that will not be the case, you need to create a website based on the product range that you sell, or you can sell only the products that are related to your website. (You can promote any product, but if your site is about music and if you promote an insurance product, very few people will buy it, but google will automatically give advertisements related to music).
3) Now comes the other side, assume you run a site about music reviews, you can use google adsense or you can promote a music related product. In first case if you are using only google ads, then you will get money on clicks, and what the advertiser would get? He will get customers, so even if 2% of the clicks get converted he would make more profit. So, why not promote your affiliate product here? Even if only 2% of your clicks convert in to sales of the product then you will get much more than what google gives you.
4) In case of affiliate marketing, you can create content once and focus more on traffic and promotion, but if you run a cpc based site, then you need to keep updating your content as well (though not mandatory, it helps a lot).

So by analyzing the pros and cons, we can safely say that it depends on the kind of person you are. I would advise using both. Always make sure that your adsense ads are not eating on your affiliate earnings.
