A New Smile? A New Dentist? London Has A Totally New Approach

When it comes to finding a new type of dentist, London is home to a great many new smiles - and it's not just the teeth whitening that's responsible! If you're looking for dentists in London then you're in for a treat - and that's not something often said about visiting the dentist. London has long been known to be home to some of the newest ideas, the latest technologies and methods, and when it comes to finding suitable dentists in London, there's more to smile about than ever.

For many people visiting the dentist regularly is part of a lifelong routine, helping to keep the pearly pegs in tip top condition. However, many other people may be looking at visiting a dentist through need, and may not be looking forward to the prospect. If it's a long time since you visited the dentist because you don't much like the idea, then the good news is that dentists today are not the same as they were years ago. As with all things, dentistry has moved on, but not just in terms of the technology and methods available.

There's been a lot of new thinking within certain practices over recent years, with many dentists in London now focussing much more on the needs of the patient, rather than just the needs of their mouth.

Whether you're looking for a little extra oral hygiene, a clean up to remove any build up of tartar for example, or perhaps you have come to realise that your smile looks less white than it did - perhaps as a result of all that coffee and red wine, then you may be looking for a new smile.

Teeth whitening is very much on people's minds these days, and although there are a few home kits for people to try themselves, the results achieved by a dentist are always going to be more astounding, more effective and longer lasting. The only trouble for some people is that a dentist has to be involved at some point.

On the other hand you may be looking for a dentist, London or indeed anywhere, not for yourself, but for your children. Regardless of your own oral hygiene and latent fears of the dentist's drill, you're almost certainly keen to try to engage your children in good practice, which involves visiting a dentist at regular intervals.

You'll almost certainly be keen to try to ensure that the dentist you choose is not one likely to put your children off. It will be important to make sure that their experience at the dentist is a positive one, encouraging a healthy and positive attitude, and not one which fosters growing fears which can last well into adulthood and greatly affect long term oral health.

Poor oral hygiene can affect the mouth and indeed the rest of the body in a wide variety of ways. A build up of tartar and plaque can cause severe damage to teeth, with gum disease not merely being very painful and unpleasant to see, but can lead to serious complications. Broken teeth and missing teeth not only damage a smile - they damage a person's confidence, and if not treated or seen to can create further problems.

So when it comes to finding a dentist, London has a new approach - but what is it which makes some dentists in London an altogether different experience compared with impressions of fearful dentists from our childhoods?

Imagine walking into a large, comfortable, spacious reception area, sitting back in a comfy chair, perhaps watching television or reading a magazine. You're then called through, and given a reassuring, calm examination coupled with a questionnaire that helps to ensure that the hygienist knows all about you - and not just your teeth. Getting to know the person, their fears, and understanding those fears helps dentists to treat patients in ways that will be best suited to ensure the patient is comfortable.

Good dentists know that all the latest technology, methods and procedures in the world won't completely help, and if the work required is fairly serious, then there's little that will calm the nerves of a truly worried patient. The modern technology which is available is not just concerned with your teeth - but with helping you as a patient relax and feel calm.

Imagine, for example, putting on a pair of virtual reality glasses that create the illusion of a large cinema screen in front of you, on which you can enjoy watching a DVD - perhaps a favourite film.

Lying back, letting the dentist get on with it while you are visually entirely immersed in another world is certainly one of many procedures not available until recently, and even now is only available at a very few dentists in London. However, vampire films may not be the most advisable ones to choose to watch whilst having your teeth capped.
