The mother started to cry and said, "You don't know? He passed away5 yesterday..."The line was quiet except for the cries of the boy's mother. Later in the day, the mother went into the boy's room because she wanted to remember him. She thought she would start by looking at his clothes.So she opened the closet.She was face to face with piles and piles and piles of unopened CDs.

She was surprised to find all these CDs and she picked one up and sat down on the bed and she started to open one. Inside, there was a CD and as she took it out of the wrapper, out fell a piece of paper. Now, I am comfortable with my height. I've lived with2 it for years, and it just doesn't bother me anymore. It is the effect that my height has on other people that I just can't stand. My height seems to bring out the worst in everyone.People seem to see my height as an excellent excuse to try to be funny, stupid jokes follow me wherever I go. When I had to accept an award for perfect high-school attendance, some jerk at the back of the room waited until I was about to say a gra?cious4 thank you, and then he hollered5, "Stand up, pale. We cannot see you!" there was, of course, much laughter, just as there was when my girlfriend's dad told her to "Throw the boy back. He is too small to keep!

"The jokes, though, are easier to handle than out-right7 rudeness. There was the time I was trying to buy a suit and was told that not even the "very best" cut could disguise8 my height. There was the car salesman who refused to show me anything but sub-compacts, insisting that anything else would be far too big for such a little fellow. And then, I cannot forget the random9 strangers who feel compelled10 to walk up to me and say "Wow! You're really short." Thanks guys, I hadn't noticed.The worst part, though, is being overlooked11 because of my height. I am the last to get served at any bar, because the bartender can't see me. I'm never chosen for any pick-up sports teams, even though being short doesn't mean I can't run as fast or throw as straight as any other guy. Women look right past me and right into the eyes of the six-foot-tall idiot at the other end of the room. Sometimes they pat me on the head as they pass by.People assume that my height makes me nothing more than a target for their dumb wisecracks, their insensitive rudenesses, or their complete disregard. They assume that because I can laugh it off, I just don't care.
