Orchids are not just purchased for occasion and as charming exotic presents but also it seems they have in the past become obsessed over, having quixotic qualities, with more

conditions: Warmth and shade.

Cymbidiums are a leafier orchid, growing up to 0.9m in height, with a winter bloom, so is able to undergo cooler temperatures. Up to 15 blossoms will grow from the stem, ranging

from white, cream, yellow, green, brown, pink and red. Origins: India, China, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Northern Australia, Borneo. Growing conditions: Cool.

Miltonia''s are a smaller orchid, only growing to half a metre. The flowers colour spans across white, pink, dark purple, yellow, lilac, green, and brown, and roughly measures

between 4 to 15 centimetre''s in diametre. Origins: Brazil, Paraguay, NE Argentina.

Growing conditions: Repot regularly. Soil to be kept moist.

Cattleya is an eye catching blossom measuring from between 5 to 15 centiemtres and comes in many colours but excludes those of blue and black. Two to eight flowers grow

and good houseplants to be contending with. Origins: Mexico,Caribbean, Southern Florida, South America.

Oncidium, available widely in the UK comes in yellow, red, white and pink. Some types are up to 5 metres, but in general are good houseplants and easy to be contending with.
