My mother is a Physician Assistant by profession and I did not want to be like her when I was growing up. As a child she would sometimes bring me to her office for a while and I would get the chance to see what his profession is all about. For me at that time, it was the easiest work I have seen so far.

She would take care of the patients, tend to them and asks them what they need. Follow request from the one who wears the white robe with a stethoscope in their neck which is the Physician and so on. My mother would run, asks me if I am ok and talk to patients. At the end of the day she though she is exhausted she still manages to smile to the patients and keep her poise in front of them. I envy the courage, strength and energy she have but that time the profession was not for me.

My mind is set on being a Physician and not on being an assistant at all. My mother was against it because we have no enough money for me to be able to take that course. I apply for a grant before entering college but was not able to receive the full scholarship grant. Instead I received a half scholarship.

Due to my strong desire to be a Physician, I enrolled in a Physician Assistant educational program thinking that my mother could help me in a lot of ways and that it is the easiest way of becoming a Physician. Of course in the end, I learned that I did not make the correct first step towards becoming a Physician. But through all of my wrong decisions and short-comings, my mother really helped a lot during the time that I was studying. If ever there is anything I need to know my mother can help me immediately and even explain to me the reasons why I need to learn it.

The girl who was not interested in being a Physician Assistant now loves it. It doesn't only made me realized that the job is a cool job and it the job that my mother has to establish a family on her own. I finished my graduation with my mom and sisters in my side. It was a very wonderful feeling.

Since my mom now needs rest I told her to retire from her present job and I will take over her job if the position will allow her. The Physician willingly approves my mother's retirement and allowed her to train me as her replacement. Now, I am a full-time Physician Assistant and I am loving everyday that I go to the clinic for my work. I get my inspiration from the patients I meet everyday, the experience I am encountering in my work and most of all for my mother who is not only very supportive at me but inspires me everyday that being a Physician Assistant can be one of the most amazing job there is.
