When you make the decision to purchase attorney lists for your marketing needs, you will want to make sure the lists contain all the pertinent information you need. Some companies offer specialty lists that has very detailed attorney data while others will just have basic attorney lists. The more information you can obtain on your prospect the better your chances are. Here are a few selections you will help you sell:

Multiple Attorney Specialties
Contact name
Attorney Firm name and mailing address
Number of employees the firm has
Phone, Fax and email address

This is a good information list which you can use to target your direct mail campaign. The list may also need to include an attorney email list since so much business is conducted via email. Another good resource that should be included on your list may be the age of the attorney. Not the exact age, but the general range of 25 to 35, 35 to 45, and so forth. This will give you an idea of the expertise of the attorney. Since your marketing campaign may have a feature that allows for this it is better to know up front.

Many companies will offer marketing lists but basically all you end up with is information that you could have looked up by yourself. You have to be wary of companies offering lists that you cannot verify. The lists are assembled from different sources such as:

Credit ratings
Fortune 500 companies
Geographic area
Small business owners

Most companies guarantee their lists up to 95% for business lists and this applies only to the mailing addresses. Since telephone numbers can change regularly, the guarantee usually does not apply to that resource. A reliable company backs up what they are selling by verifying their information over the telephone.

Before you purchase a mailing list from any company make sure you are getting what you want. How much information are they providing? Most companies have their mailing lists by category - business, consumer, resident, and specialty lists. Each category should tell you what is included with that list.

A telephone number is essential. If you are looking for a specialty list instead of just the normal attorney list, for example, you may want to include attorneys that attended a certain law school. This may not be included on a standard list. That is the importance of being able to reach a live person at the number listed for the company selling the lists. Another thing you will want to find out before purchasing a list if you have a specific marketing plan in mind is if the list can be marketed using any method, phone, fax, or email.

Be sure of exactly what you are getting before you pay for it and you will lessen the chance that you have to fight with a company to get your money back. The Better Business Bureau is one avenue that you can check before deciding on a specific company. If they have had a lot of unresolved complaints, you would be better off finding another company. Find out what company other people are using. They will tell you the most reliable one they have found. Remember, word of mouth is one of the best advertisements available.
