6 Tips to Discover How to Stop Procrastinating and Change Habits

The biggest danger when you are taking action to change habits is procrastinating. Fortunately there are a number of strategies that you could use to assist you to prevent procrastinating once and for all.

If you're a chronic procrastinator you might have feelings of guilt, frustration and anxiety as you, once again, don't achieve what you wanted to.

Procrastination can occur for many reasons. For some people fear is the reason that procrastinating can play such a component in their lives. It could be a fear of failure or of success. Procrastinating could also be a method of not claiming responsibility for your actions and hoping, that if you continue to behave this way for long enough, that somebody else will make that difficult decision on your behalf or do the work that you should have been doing.

Procrastination just isn't something you need to live with anymore. When you allow procrastination to occur then nothing gets done. This then causes frustration with yourself and feeling worthless about yourself and your abilities.

At the initial sign that you are trying to shelve your commitment to change habits use the following pointers:

1. Balance the benefits of acting versus the consequences of procrastinating. What could you have achieved by this time tomorrow if you were to get started immediately?
2. Set achievable and realistic goals. Trying to run a marathon next month will only set you up for failure. Setting yourself that goal in six months or one year provides you with a far greater expectation of success.
3. Get organized. If you want more information, or certain tools, to successful change habits then make a time to get what you need. If you organize your time and your resources you will find that there's less chance that you will procrastinate.
4. Get started. Do something. MOVE. If you are aiming for a marathon then sign up with a running club or buy a brand new pair of running shoes. If you are aiming to clear out the garage then change into some old clothes and open the first box. Activity is the most effective antidote for procrastination.
5. Don’t beat yourself up if you aren't perfect all the time when you take steps to change habits. It isn't about perfection; it is about making progress one baby step at a time.
6. Reward yourself throughout your journey to change habits.

Knowing yourself is the important thing to successful planning. What are the real reasons for your habit? What are the real causes for your procrastinating? Your greatest enemy at this stage is fear of failure. That is normal. Do not let it bother you. Simply set a date when you are going to start to change habits and stick to it.

Ensure that you do set a date that is in the near future-two weeks from today, not two months from today. You will be more likely to procrastinateIf if you give yourself too much time.
