Going away for a weekend city break, or a skiiing holiday, or to gap year travel or business trips overseas, Travel Insurance should always be taken out. Protection from all kinds of hazards and upsets which could affect you over the time you spend in another country is a must and professional opinion is always advised.

It seems shocking to find that many people go overseas without adequate cover, with some going away with none at all. The Home Office always recommends certain levels as they cannot and will not pay for your repatriation in the event of an emergency.

Medical Expenses is an important aspect of any travel insurance policy. Whether you are unlucky enough to break your leg falling over at the side of an empty tropical highway, or victim of a cobra attack, it is important that your cover will fly you home by air ambulance if need be.

Loss, stolen or damaged possessions are integral to any basic package. Some insurers will allow you to choose limits on the value of what you will have covered, with added focus being paid to more valuable items such as digital cameras. However please note that all insurers expect you to take as much care of the items as if they were uninsured, so be warned.

Personal Liability in the event of you accidentally causing damage to property or injuring another person, and then the owner of that property, or the person you injure, decides to make a claim and sue you, is a must. Perhaps unlikely to happen you may presume, but anyone is capable of knocking something expensive over in a shop which shatters, or letting a tap overflow in a motel.

Delayed Baggage is a real nightmare for anyone as not only do you have no idea as to where your personal effects and possessions are, but you also know not when and if they will be coming back to you. In the event of this unfortunate situation arising then money is made available after say 12 hours for you to spend on replacing some of the more essential items. If the baggage never actually resurfaces then this money is taken off the overall price claimed for the full amount.

Legal Expenses Cover forms part of any travel insurance package and will allow the policy holder to pursue compensation or damages following a personal injury whilst overseas. This is particulary relevant in those countries which don''t have an all encompassing legal system.

Other facets of policies include overseas funeral expenses, trip cancellation or interuption and accidental death. Also worth noting is that policies will not pay out on alcoholicv drink or illegal drugs related incidents.
