5 Unique Ways To Market Your Home Business

There are thousands of ways that you can market your Home Based Business. The following are just a few.

Pay Per Click (PPC)

When learning about internet marketing, a good place to start is with Pay Per Click, PPC. The name pretty much sums up what this type of marketing is all about. Essentially, you pay every time someone clicks on your link and visits your site. But what's not important is how many clicks you get... instead, what's more important is who clicks your link.
Since you might be paying up to $2 every time someone clicks your link, it's important to make sure that only people who are interested in what you are promoting are doing the clicking.

The best way that you can manage who gets to see your link is through using the search engines. Take Google for example. You can set up your own free marketing account with Google (known as Adwords), choose the keyword searches that you want to trigger your ads, and get immediate traffic.

It's best to select long tail keywords, meaning keywords that are really groups of keywords with less competition than the obvious choices. For example, you'll pay much less per click if you bid on the phrase 'home business opportunity in Australia' than just the phrase 'home business.' The trade- off is that you won't get as much traffic, as more people will tend to search for the latter.

It's better to make use of the less popular search engines, like Yahoo and MSN. Sure, you won't get as much traffic as Google can deliver, but you'll get much cheaper clicks.

Article Marketing

For most home business owners, writing articles is a waste of time. It takes too much time to write each article, they don't write well, and as a result hardly anyone reads to the bottom of the article to click on their link.

Well that's the way things used to be. Now, we have some pretty amazing tools available to us, that can help us effortlessly produce thousands of articles, which are totally unique. It's vital that when you are submitting your articles to all of the different article directories out there (and there are thousands) that you try to make each different. Otherwise, Google will notice and may penalize you for distributing duplicate content. The tool to use is called an article spinner. A simple google search should find you a free one.
Don't think of article writing as being just about getting leads. It also has another use; getting heaps of incoming links out there, which will help to get your site ranked high (this is what Search Engine Optimization, or SEO is all about).

Making Videos

Making videos to promote your business is where it's headed. Let's be honest; the average Australian watches well over 2 hours of television each day, and so most people are conditioned to prefer watching than reading. A lot more people choose to watch TV than read; it requires less effort, and after a long day of work it's more appealing for most people.
Sites like YouTube and MetaCafe have really boomed because of this tendency to watch. And most of the top internet marketers in the world make use of videos in their product launches.

You've got to remember that people buy from those they like, know, and trust. So if someone can see what you look like in person, it gives you a lot more credibility than if you were just writing text.
When filming videos of yourself, try not to be too much of a perfectionist. It's OK if they're not perfect, because chances are neither are your prospects, and people will mostly buy from others they perceive to be like them. Also, don't try to be someone you're not. Occasionally, I see home business owners wearing suits in their home office. It can get a little silly at times, since a big part of working from home is to get away from all that)

But the other extreme can also be just as bad. I recently saw a video of a lady promoting her home business while dancing around in her pyjamas. It didn't exactly make me want to get involved. So try to strike a balance between the two.

Mail Drops

Doing mail drops can be a very effective strategy, especially since many marketers have fled the scene to promote their business on the net, and left the mail industry wide open.
But if you are going to use this strategy, there are a few things you must know. Firstly, walking around dropping flyers in peoples' mail boxes is not going to work. To do a mail drop, you should aim to distribute at least 500 flyers, which will take you a long time to distribute on foot...perhaps too long to make it worth your time. Next, you need to know how to write good copy, or have someone else do it for you. Making a post card with the headline "Work From Home" will not pull. Most importantly, you must target those who you want to receive your offer, rather than broadcasting to the general public.
You can get a list of such people organizations like DSA data. But before you even consider spending money with this medium, be sure to test first. If your copy doesn't pull on your website, it's unlikely to get results when done through mail.

Social Media

This is is what the new web, web 2.0 is all about. Social Media Sites like FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter etc. that rely on human input have become giants in a remarkably short time, and it's because they offer the user a whole new level of experience. The great thing about such sites is that they allow you to get an audience very quickly ... Take Twitter for example. If you want to target those who are interested in starting a home business, you can make friends with the leaders in the home business industry. Chances are, they have literally thousands of followers who are open to hearing about what you offer, and you are able to put your business in front of them.

But there are several rules that must be obeyed... For starters, don't do what most people do, and invite others to become your friend only to try to sell them something as soon as they accept. It's a bit like moving to a new neighborhood, inviting your new neighbors over for dinner, and then trying to sell them something as soon as they arrive.

You wouldn't do this in real life, so don't do it online either.

First focus on building relationships with these people. Offer value. If you come across a resource that is helpful, tell your followers about it. They'll appreciate it, and will be inclined to help you out too. You'll eventually get to know these people, and get to know these people, they'll more than likely want to know more about you, which is when you might tell them what exactly it is you do.
