In the corporate world, and even in one’s personal life, we are inundated with choices for gifts and giveaways. Very often that very array of choice will bring problems in what will be the correct item for the correct situation.

For the corporate world cost, of course, will be one of the deciding factors. If you are planning to make a sales drive then naturally you will be on a budget. For more targeted marketing then cost may not be so important.

For example, if you plan to flood an area with your adverts, giveaways like key-rings, mugs, caps etc with your name or the name of the company emblazoned on it is an excellent way to get your name out there. This works particularly well if your name depicts what you manufacture or sell. For an example, imagine receiving a mug with a logo for ‘Castaways Hotel’ with a palm tree motif. This would get people hankering for that holiday that they have been dreaming of and chances are, they will try you first.

For the more targeted marketing campaigns, or merely to say ‘thank you’ to valued clients, then the budget will probably be a little more flexible. Executive style gifts are many and varied but always beware that there is a time and place for such gifts. They would be looked upon with suspicion if you sent a beautiful silver pen or such just as you are about to conclude negotiations for a new contract. Also, if the gift is supposed to be from one executive to another on a personal level, then better to leave off logos and engravings of the company as this could appear to be a little tasteless.

But for the other times when executive gifts are appropriate, then try sending something a little unusual. Anything engraved is normally well received and the choice is virtually endless.

Perhaps a set of fine crystal whisky glasses or flutes with the company logo engraved on the side? These are a welcome addition to any drinks cabinet and show a sense of style and grace. Or maybe, if you know the person to be a traveler, then a smart, quality leather briefcase with laptop compartment, again with the company logo, would be a very welcome addition to the recipient’s baggage. Don’t forget also that your logo will be going with him/her wherever they may travel giving you excellent coverage.

Even a decorous desk clock, with your logo engraved on it, would make an impressive addition to anyone’s office but beware if they are a very stylish or monochrome style office. An antique clock in such a setting would be completely out of place and would probably end up at the back of a cupboard somewhere. Not the general idea!

In the leather range there are many items suitable for engraving. Tote bags, overnight cases, briefcases, laptop covers, weekend bags etc, all lend themselves to the executive or junior executive gift ideas. These, naturally, are more expensive than the normal gift ideas but say so much about the company gifting them.

For gifting closer to home, so to speak, again the choice is virtually endless. For the new baby, a gift basket with the baby’s name added will knock out the new parents for both the beauty and the thoughtfulness. New parents have enough on their plates to begin with so a basket full of goodies for the new arrival is a most welcome addition to their already hectic lives.

Perhaps jewelry is a preferred gift. With this in mind, try finding a special piece that can be engraved with the recipient’s initials or perhaps a date that means something to both of you. A wedding anniversary or birthday or such will bless the gift with special meaning. Even your initials or a short message can be added, if the piece will allow, and will make it extra special.

Solid bracelets seem to be well in fashion and these lend themselves ideally to the engraved message. Some like the message to be on the inside so that it is hidden from the world. Indeed, in Victorian times it was usual to have the inside of rings engraved so that the outside world would not know that there was a love tryst going on!

For Dad, perhaps an engraved lighter would be acceptable. Note that in today’s very health conscious world, this may seem a little politically incorrect, but that surely is a personal choice between you and the one the gift is intended for. Perhaps a better choice may be a pen knife, with all the trappings and gizmos needed for a camping or fishing trips would be more socially acceptable and this can also be engraved to add that personal touch.

Executives and Dads alike may appreciate the odd cigar. Cigar holders are available in several finishes, including silver, which look extremely elegant and can be engraved with their initials or your company’s logo. Again, check out the person carefully before considering this style of gift.

Other gifts suitable for adults and children alike are musical or jewelry boxes. These come in all sizes and shapes and can be engraved to add a touch of elegance. Some can be personalized by choosing different styles or different finishes to be just that little bit different from the norm.

For the office, of kids’ party, you could try out a cookie basket filled with delicious cookies of your choice. Each one can be iced with your message, or even initials to make it special. Logos too can be added and is a great way of rewarding a sales office for work well done.

So, whether it is a piece of jewelry, a case or tote bag, a knife or lighter, mug or pen, key-ring or such, add a little something extra like an engraving so that they know you went that extra mile to give something a little more out of the ordinary. People will really appreciate this kind of gift and you will be remembered in a very favorable light.
