How would you like it if the design that you have worked so hard for would not come out as nice as you pictured it out to be when you have it printed? It would be very disheartening especially if you poured all your heart out when you were making the design. Although mostly it is the printer that should be blamed for this kind of problem, there are some times that the culprit is the quality of paper that was used. Thus, if you want to make sure that the Christmas cards that you are going to make are of high quality, you need to check the quality of the paper that you are going to use, as well.

Here are some of the things that you can use to guide you.

1. Thickness - Your paper looks nice and it might just be what you are looking for to compliment the design that you have. Then, suddenly, you realized that the paper that you have chosen is difficult to feed to your printer. Thus, before you buy paper, make sure that you check the settings of your printer or what paper thickness your chosen printing shop accepts. What good is a design and sheets of card paper if the printer does not accept the paper that you already have?

2. Color and brightness - Go for light colored paper as designs tend to become more emphasized and colors are much more vibrant if the paper you are using is of a lighter shade. It is quite difficult to find an ink color that would stand out in dark paper. Thus, to make your life less difficult, go for light colored paper. Also, it is much easier to make designs if you are envisioning a light background compared to when you are planning for a dark background.

3. Size - your layout would depend on how big your personalised Christmas card is going to be. If you are planning to print the card yourself and you only have the common printer, then go for paper sizes that would fit your printer. As opposed to when you are planning to have your card printed in a card shop which would most probably accommodate more varied paper sizes, you could have more paper size options.

4. Finish - Do you prefer to have your paper with matte or glow finish? What do you think your recipient would appreciate? You also need to consider these options. Your decision would be based on the kind of personality your recipient has. You can even prefer to use scented paper if your recipient would like it.

5. Durability - How long would you want your card to last? If you want it to be a perfect remembrance gift, then go for paper with high durability. Paper is a very vulnerable material. If you go for those kinds of paper that easily wear off then you should not expect for your card to last that long. Why would you settle for cheap materials if you intend to make your gift last?

6. Availability - How easily can you buy the paper card you have chosen? Foresee any mishaps that could come along the way as you are already printing you card. If you are not the kind of person who believes in buying extra materials, then see to it that the paper you have chosen is not difficult to find and is available in any paper shop that you could go to.

If you do not heed the tips given above, you would find yourself going back to the paper shop looking for a paper that is ideal for your need. Not only does this waste your time, it would also double your expenses as high quality paper does not come cheap.

Thus, if you are planning to send Christmas cards during the holiday and if you want to make a good impression on your recipients, make sure that the paper that you pick is ideal for the job. If not, you would find yourself crying over spilled milk just because the final output does not look good.
