There are several malicious programs on the Net and one of them is Zlob which is known for wrecking havoc on computers. If you do not use the right procedure for getting rid of it, you could end up making things worse.

Before you can remove Zlob, some background information will be necessary. It is a spyware (although it is also sometimes referred to as a Trojan virus) and targets computers that run the Windows operating systems. It is also known as the Troj/Zlob-QJ, and comes in several variants. These include Generic Downloader.gen.bd, Trojan.Zlob.D, Trojan.Zlob, Trojan, Troj/Zlob-CD Downloader-XC, Downloader, Win32.Zlob Puper, and TROJ_ZLOB.

As with other Trojan viruses, the Zlob works by attaching itself onto a file. Once it is downloaded and executed by a user, the spyware will run, installing its files in several Windows folders and into the system files as well, including the Registry.

Once the Zlob spyware has been installed in the computer, it will eventually take over the browser; it will result in windows popping up, redirecting the URL to certain sites and devouring system resources. Even if you are not online, the spyware will still inflict damage by erasing documents and images. In addition, there are reports that the personal information stored on your computer will be erased and even shipped to other websites.

To remove the Zlob spyware, you need to do a few things. First run the spyware or antivirus program you have installed. With luck, these programs will detect and remove it automatically. If this does not work, you need to delete the files manually. To do this, go to the Add/Remove option in Windows, and delete the program there.

Next go to the Windows Registry and remove it. This step is necessary because the Zlob integrates itself into the system. This is the reason why this spyware is so difficult to delete; once in the Registry, it will be booted up every time the computer loads up.

Go to the Start Menu, click Run, and enter “regedit”. Now head over to the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunRegSvr32=%System%msmsgs.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrentVersionWinlogonShell=explorer.exe

To be sure, you should also look for, and delete the following: nvctrl.exe, msmsgs.exe, msvol.tlb, vnp7s.net, ncompat.tlb, zxserv0.com RSA, dumpserv.com, Protect, dumpserv.com and hp[X].tmp.

Regardless of your computing skills, you can protect yourself from Zlob spyware and its kin through several means. First you should have an anti spyware and antivrus software in your system. Do not settle for just one or the other; the costs you may incur for updating it on a regular basis will be minimal when compared to the one you will reap when a spyware like Zlob thrashes your data.

Second, perform regular virus scans and cleanup of your hard disk. Remove any suspicious looking files on your system. Next, read up regularly or subscribe to tech sites so you will know when a new spyware or virus has emerged.

The dangers inherent in spyware like Zlob cannot and should not be underestimated. By undertaking the proper steps though, you will know the appropriate ways of deleting this program.
