Once your wound is fully healed, you can begin the silicone scar treatment. Starting before the wound has had a chance to heal can lead to complications, including infection, so it's vital to have a doctor monitor it and let you know when you can start treating it yourself.

Overall, many wounds can clear up on their own if the healing process is not hampered by infection or picking at the wound. However, if interference occurs or the injury itself is serious enough to cause scarring, silicone scar treatments are safe, inexpensive, and effective ways to reduce the appearance of scars.
