Registry is one of the vital parts of Windows system which contains the settings and parameters of all your software, device drivers and system programs. If it is corrupt or damaged, your computer will not be able to work properly and has serious system errors.

Why You Need To Back Up Registry?

Registry is essential to all Windows systems including Windows 7, Vista, XP and such. But it is extremely vulnerable. There are many issues that can bring damage to it. A simple program uninstallation can make changes to some registry keys. And if you make an invalid operation like shutting down computer without exiting all programs, some keys can also be damaged.

The worst case is that your computer is infected with virus, worms, Trojans, spyware and the like. Some of your registry keys can be directly deleted by those destructive stuff. When some of the keys are corrupt, damaged or deleted, your computer will be confronted with severe problems like freezes, blue screen, black screen and even crash.

To avoid the severe consequences, it is necessary for you to make your Registry Backup.

How To Make Registry Backup?

You can use Registry Editor to back it up. Just follow the steps below (The operations may be a little different with different systems):

1. Click Start and then click Run (If you are using Win 7, you will not find "Run" option any more. Go to step 2).

2. Input "regedit" to the box and press Enter to open the Editor.

3. Click File menu and select Export. And then name the backup file and select the destination where you want to save it.

4. Then Click Save or OK. You successfully back up your registry.

When a problem occurs, you can import the backup to replace the corrupt one. But in my opinion, Registry editor is not a very good backup tool. You cannot use it to manage the backups. And the registry backup files are not protected. They can be easily damaged or deleted. You need to use a professional tool.
