Fundraising. Such a straightforward word and nonetheless one that appears to inflict concern among nonprofit staff and volunteers alike. It's the factor everybody needs to try and do, and the one thing that looks to forever get pushed to the top of the line.

Why is that?
Staff and Board members alike bemoan the very fact that they don't seem to be fundraising, and whereas explanations vary, mainly they fall into one in all 3 categories:
I/We have a tendency to have no time
I/We don't have any resources
I/We tend to don't recognize what to try to to
I sympathize and empathize. Time and resources are ever-scarcer commodities, whereas the worry of not doing it right is a growing one. As is the fear of rejection. As a result of regardless of what anyone tells you, it IS regarding you and rejection perpetually feels personal. However fundraising is extremely vital (not just urgent) and it is something in that each Board and workers must actively engage.

With that in mind, I believed I'd provide a few ways that to fundraise that irrespective of how busy you are you'll be in a position to suit into your calendar (and keep within your comfort level).

Remembering that your best prospect is an existing donor, you want to keep those donors engaged and involved. One way is to thank them, usually, for their support (be that monetary or gifts of their time and talents). Once a week, thank each donor who has created a gift within the previous week- irrespective of size, and no matter who else has sent them a thanks letter. Make it even easier by printing up some note cards with your organization's name and your name and title (if you are a Board member, that's your title). Then take pen in hand and write:

Thanks! It slow/money/support is therefore appreciated. As a result of of you we could.......
Personally contact (via phone, letter or email) a lapsed donor. Tell him how their past support helped to form a difference.

Go back through your rolodex. Who is not involved with or supporting your organization? Contact them (again, it doesn't matter how, simply that you just personally reach out) and strive again. Bear in mind, "no" is rarely "no" forever. Often it's "just not at this time."

Send out "Quick Facts" about your organization. Email is a nice approach to do this. Keep it short, no more than 3 fast facts a week-and keep in mind, you'll recycle good ones. This will not solely help to keep you and your organization in front of individuals, it can facilitate them be ambassadors for you in their communities.

Bundle. Simply as high tech firms "bundle" along product, assume about how you can package things you may be doing for one purpose and use it for another. This can be a great savings of your time, energy, and money. So,
Place the Fast Facts on your Face book page
Invite a donor or a chance to one thing at your organization that hasn't been usually used for donor cultivation or to another event elsewhere in your community thus you'll have some sensible face time along
Scan, with an eye fixed to articles you'll clip or books your can recommend and send along to prospects and donors and a "Thought this is able to interest you," written on your business card.

If you spent one hour per week on these or like activities, I promise your fundraising will increase and you'll surprise at how very little extra time you need.
