President Obama and World Contention

Some feel that issues at home have kept President Obama from implementing campaign promises. Rather than honing in on international relations and improving the way many countries see the U.S., he has had to target the Afghanistan and Iraq war. He and many other politicians have also dealt with a drooping economy and have been active in campaigning for health care reform.
Due to these challenges the president has largely had to focus on domestic policies and let international stratagem remain all but forgotten. When he has met with foreign dignitaries and gone to visit other countries he has primarily focused on enhancing relations with China. Many sense he has not paid as much attention to Europe as he should. This has disturbed many politicians because they eagerly looked forward to his time in office. They were anticipating the things that would improve and the rapport that they would have with President Obama and that has not occurred.

Rather than fostering them as necessary allies they sense that they've been overlooked. And this has not gone over well, particularly for America's European allies who have bolstered the country for so long. Some feel that now they are being forgotten because of the new powerhouse China.
But another crisis the president is facing at home is that he is having a tough time getting his policies passed within the United States. This blunts his international applomb. Doug Paal from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace stated that "When American presidents get feeble at home, it really does affect their ability to act abroad."

In 2009, Obama visited 21 countries and most of them are countries the U.S. has edgy relationships with. While some relationships have healed, some have stayed the same and others have regressed, but worries are rife especially with Iran and North Korea. So it's difficult to know how the world truly feels and if that has improved much. Iran keeps to itself and is working on its nuclear program regardless of their opponents around the world. And North Korea isn't any better. They will not even go back to the conference to discuss their nuclear program.

The violence in the Middle East is another issue that has seen almost no attention. Before Obama was sworn into office many dreamed that a method could be reached to curtail the tensions between the U.S., Israel, and the remainder of the Middle East. America's trustworthiness is being questioned and nothing has been done about that. The U.S. has so many domestic issues that the President hasn't been able to focus on global difficulties and that has also harmed the image many believed Obama was going for.

But as international matters keep burgeoning and the U.S. and other countries remain on their own itineraries, the relationships are getting convoluted. The U.S. has bettered relations with Russia and they are working together to pressure Iran. However, because of cyber attacks from China against the U.S. and the fact that the U.S. is sending arms to Taiwan along with other issues the relationship is getting rockier.
Even though things are less than ideal, predominantly with Iran and North Korea the world has stepped up to the plate and they do realize that the U.S. can not control everything. Everyone is trying to work in unison to weld together our global community.
