Take mental notes, you are looking for a signal that they are not happy with something, either they are tired, or feeling like they have too many things to deal with.

Key: Acknowledge the feelings; be sure to let them know that you can see that they are having a challenging day.

Next: Build them up; let them know that they are the best person to truly help you. Give them an example of why they are the best person to really help you.

What makes them tick? They really want to help someone, or save them from a situation or being uncomfortable. Once they understand that that is something that they can do for you then, they are eager to make it happen so that you are happy, they love to feel that they saved you from some type of suffering.

The second style we are looking at is someone who is very driven by having deadlines, also known as a Sensor. Value comes from being able to do something quickly and effectively.

Here's what you look for: tell tale signs you are talking to a Sensor, everything is on a time schedule, including a talking to you. You'll notice that there's a very short attention span, and that every once in a while there is very passionate energy that surfaces. If you're not careful then you might feel like you are putting them out by simply talking to them.

This communication style sounds a bit tough but here's the trick you need to know to get them to give you what you want.

First present this person with a plan of action, so that they don't feel like they're taking their time to put this together, let them know that you did this out of respect for their time. Let them know the need for the solution and the plan of action.

Get to the point quickly, don't beat around the bush. Nothing will annoy this person more than having their time wasted, and you'll never get what you are after. Show them how you are reducing their task list. This will make them want to help you.
