Baby Boomers and Age Discrimination - Being Aware of Your Rights

The initial thing you need to be aware of is the definition of baby boomers and what ADEA is involved with. First you must know that the generation known as the baby boomers were born when the country was experiencing a great increase in the birth rate The baby boomer generation in the US is defined as those who were born after WWII and the Vietnam War. The upshot is that there is multiple generations of baby boomers during this era.

Now, the people in the baby boomer generation are in their 40s and 50s. Age Discrimination in Employment Act, or in simpler terms, the ADEA. Everybody, especially people in their 40s and 50s are protected by this. The implication is that if you belong to the baby boomers group, you need to be aware that you do possess rights at work. Age should not be a factor and should not cause you to become unemployed.

A lot of individuals aged 40 through 50's are having a difficult time finding work in the U.S. due to their age. You should file a complaint in the EEOC or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission,if this happens to you. The occurrence of age discrimination related complaints and law suits in on the rise. The number of complaints filed in th years 1999 to 2002 rose 41 percent, and continue to rise still.

Unfortunately, many employers are basing hiring of new employees based on not only qualifications, but also age. This means you have a minimal chance of being hired if you were born in the baby boomers era, even though you may be more qualified for the job than other applicants.

During the time between WWII and the Vietnam War, the baby boomers generation was born. What this means is that baby boomers were coming of age during the years when the fights for civil rights were being held in the United States. As a baby boomer, you are already well aware of the rights of U.S. Citizenship.

Age discrimination is on the rise in the United States. Unfortunately, people who are only in their 40s and 50s can suffer discrimination in the workplace by fellow coworkers as well as their employers.
They were growing old and some are alienated by fellow workers,just because some baby boomers lost their jobs.

The ADEA falls under the administration of the EEOC. It is important to note that since 1967 discrimination against workers over 40 is illegal. Be aware that you are entitled to equal employment opportunity.

Today, baby boomers are widely perceived as an unhappy group. They have the right to be unhappy,besides. This is due to the fact that the vast number of layoffs occurring overpower the slow growth of the economy. Workers who would be considered baby boomers have had the largest number of layoffs. This type of policy is quite disconcerting and may cause anybody in the baby boomers group to shudder.

The idling economy is strongly linked to age discrimination. Age discrimination often rises as the number of opportunities falls. There should be no discrimination in the business world. Americans have been subjected to quite a bit of discrimination. Many people were discriminated because of their specific gender, race, religion, or age. These types of discrimination in all of its forms are unethical as well as illegal.
Under the jurisdiction of the EEOC and civil law, every US citizen should have fair and equal opportunity to pursue a career, and not be discriminated against based on age, gender, religion, or race.

It is vital that you know what your citizen's rights are. If you should experience discrimination due to age, you should immediately contact your nearest EEOC office to speak to a representative and report the discrimination you felt when you applied for a job in a particular company or when laid off from a job.

If you can remember your rights, you won't ever be discriminated against because of your age. ADEA and EEOC will be able to help you with your problems in discrimination in the workplace,always remember that.
